Perhaps surprisingly, I really find the color image preferable to the b&w. I agree the starkness of the backlit steam and tracks in the b&w certainly have their appeal, but the color version speaks to me more of the glory of the sunrise and early morning promise. And the steam and tracks are still featured prominently. Nice work on both counts!

I'm very grateful for your interest, Tommy.

Here is a dng and a minimally edited raw-to-jpg should you get bored and wish to try an edit:

The monochrome original edit is dramatic, but this color shot you posted with the gold light and shine has an appeal of its own. Like you say, it is your photo, do what you want - you done good both times, Linda.

Agreed.

For my tastes, they/it needs no additional/alternate editing.
I like the first B&W and the color as they exist.

I think the darkness ties in well with the chimney belching pollution into the air. The railroad tracks disappearing out of sight makes the viewer think about where all this is going to lead us. Wow, I came up with all that before my evening glass of wine.

Good job, John. I need at least two glasses of Sangria to get me going in the morning 🤭 🤭

Many thanks for your time and interest. Great to hear from you.

Linda, at your suggestion, I attempted various edits of your photo. Here's one in sepia. Frankly, though, I think yours was better.

I'm more of a "color guy", but I really like the B&W version in the first image. It has "movement" to me. I can almost see the steam cloud rising and I definitely "hear the train a comin'." The color version, though nice, has a completely different feel to me.

Super to know the b&w comes across that way for you.

Your time and interest are much appreciated!
