"Doing the Twist?" No. Hokie-Pokie? I don't think so. IMHO, this is a great shot of an Egret "Twerking". Fantastic capture of a "dirty bird."

Thank You
In my opinion it was a twist, between one step and the next the bird would completely reverse course and go the other way. I saw him do it more than once - this was the one I was doing a slow burst of his pursuit of the minnows. In a distance of 6-8 feet he made 3 strikes, got one tiny minnow which went down instantly and 2 misses. Those rings in the water where from the strikes. He was going at a dead run and the sequence only took 10-15 seconds for that 10 foot dash.

LOVE the unusual angle and water. You get extra points from me with your creative (non typical) perspective.

Glad you like it.
This pond is part of a man made river, rapids, falls, pond series about 1 mile long in a flood control channel on the west edge of Riverside, CA. Get off the 91 Fwy and turn north on Pierce and just north of the freeway the name changes to "Riverwalk Parkway" and the man made river goes north to opposite the gate to La Sierra University. It is a joint project of the park department and local businesses. The water is almost 20' below street level and this particular pond has steep grassy sides on the east. Hard to stand on unless you right down to the water, then you scare off the birds so I was on top shooting down at the bird. The water is usually a brown/green color but the sky reflection gives you blue at certain angles.

...Like We Did Last Summer

The same Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) I followed in the two "Angel" posts.
He chased the school of minnows along the shallows making several strikes and got some, missed others.
Then the school reversed and shoot around and between his legs back the other way.
He had just missed a strike and is twisting so fast water drops are still coming off his beak.
In less than a second between one step and the next he was reversed and chasing the minnows but they turned and went into deeper water at which point the egret turned the pursuit run into a take off run and circled the pond again looking for more.
They often "herd" minnows using their feet. I have seen them fly low trailing their feet in the water to startle minnows into jumping so they can snatch them out of the air.
