Some thoughts, as a hobbyst, what photographs are important and not so important.
Some thoughts, as a hobbyst, what photographs are important and not so important.
First of a series.
These notes are a result of changes in family circumstances.
Most of the images are mine, however a couple were purchased and a few inherited.
For myself the images that are the most memorable are the ones that have personal meaning.
Not so important (1):
First up are the flower pics (pics #1 & #2). A very pleasant way to pass the time, not difficult to photograph (if it is not windy), and they loook good.
These were taken in a local nursery about 20 minutes walk away from. We would walk over there for lunch (Australians in urban areas tend to get food mixed
up with shopping) and after lunch I would do some photography.
Next are birds in flight.
These can be tricky to photograph, however the skills gained will come in very handy for shootoing other action subject, like sport etc.
Thanks for looking and more to come and feel free to ask questions and contribute.

I think you have condensed hobbyist photography down to it's essence. We worry more about what the shot contains than if it will sell. While we strive for perfection the content is the most important consideration. My dear old dad told me that one of the worst things that you can do is make your advocation your vocation.
I know there will be many who disagree about that but to this day, I'm 77 years young, I still believe my dad was right.

Thanks very much. I have never worried about selling any, however I have sold a few or reaped other benefits from the photographs. It has always been a hobby (albeit a bit expensive before i got over GAS.
Are you saying these pictures shown here are not as important as others of yours?

For me personally - yes. Although I do very much enjoy being out and doing photography.
Very nice shots Richard. For pictures that you shoot yourself, I find it is often the memories they bring back when viewing them!
For me it is capturing a moment in time that may not ever happen again. That once in a lifetime type of thing. Also any memories that bring a smile when you need it most. If the photo is technically good that is an added bonus.

Thanks very much, there is always that.

Nice work. I shoot mostly landscapes within a mile or 2 from the house. I am very lucky to live in a very beautiful area. I look for what amounts to memories. I show the good (very few) ones. And show a occasional shot to friends or family members. Important? To me perhaps, but in all probability no one else.I used to shoot charity gatherings, and sold a few to the performers. So I guess they were important to them. But that was a very long time ago. BTW, the vast overwhelming number of shots are not even important to me, so I use my cameras most used function--delete.

Thanks very much. I also feel photographs that make other people happy (and I will be posting a few of those) are a bit more up on the important list for me.
