Just for the record, DxO announced on October 25, 2017, the acquisition of Nik Collection from Google and has since continued to develop it. So, it would seem to me that DXO would have also acquired the responsibility of supporting the product from that point on.

Yes, they do support the product they own and market, but they don't support earlier versions of it published by either of the two previous vendors. I don't think any reasonable person would expect DXO to provide any support, free or otherwise for the original Nik owned version from before Google acquired it. However, I've even seen some of those users complaining that DXO will not support them or give them special upgrade pricing to the current version. I've also seen paid users of the Google version asking for similar treatment. What I find even stranger is the expectation of support and discounted upgrades by some Nik users who acquired it for free after Google abandoned it. I don't know if the OP of this thread paid for his version or acquired it for free. I strongly believe DXO does not has any responsibility for support or discounted upgrades for Nik Collection versions prior to their acquisition of it.

I never suggested that they should provide support prior to their ownership of the product. However, as a good business ploy, it wouldn't be a bad idea to do so.

I know you didn't suggest it. What I wrote was not a direct response to your comments. Sorry. When they first released a DXO branded version of Nik in early 2018 they were more willing to provide some support for minor issues to owners of previous versions, to encourage them to purchase DXO's version. The problem for DXO was that a lot of people started seeking support for their previous free and paid versions after years of neglect and then decided to keep their old versions. DXO eventually had to draw the line somewhere. It irks me when people who aren't willing to put a little skin in the game complain when they don't get free support.

You didn’t answer my questions. And I have no desire to get into a discussion of corporate responsibility in this forum.

If you don't want something discussed, you shouldn't bring it up.

"They bought it and should have some responsibility, at least to answer a pretty simple question."

Here is a link to DXO regarding previous versions of the Nik Collection. I don't know if this link is still valid but in it they state:

"Nik Collection by DxO is now available on the following page, free 30-day trial version with all the features unlocked and customer support.
If you would like to download the previous version of Nik Collection, please fill the form below, please note that we don’t deliver any support on the previous version."

https://nikcollection.dxo.com/nik-collection-2012/

That seems like a very generous approach for them to take.

DXO should have responded by stating that if you had the current product the answers to your questions are as follows. However as you have an old version, this is the best we can offer. This isn't the only product DXO sells so why give a smart ass answer to a possible new client. They did not grasp the opportunity. After all a system/software problems was not the issue.

Actually they are well aware of the opportunities. When they took ownership of the Nik Collections in late 2017, they were deluged with hundreds, if not thousands, of requests for support. Many of those requests were from Nik users who had acquired the Collection at no cost. Those Nik users weren't about to shell out more money for DXO's first version, primarily a recompiled and rebranded version which mostly addressed fixing bugs.

I don’t see anywhere that they gave a smart ass response. They just didn’t offer support.

Alpha55, I have to vehemently disagree with you. There is nothing in DXO's answer that REMOTLY resembles a "smart ass answer". What I see is the familiar concept that "the business of business is business."
Someone who got something free, asking for free support is never a prospective client. You'll go broke thinking that way.
