Re: Davidb1879 (Canon SX70): Many, many thanks to everyone who gave me such good advice. I am leaning to another Lumix FZ300. Davidb1879.

I take both my cell phone & my Canon on a trip. If I really need a picture that may be enlarged or have a low light or need the telephoto lens: I use the Canon. If I don't want to carry the Canon, I use my cell.

As one who has been taking pictures for 80 years, I suggest that you curb your ageism. People have different goals and different expectations from their photographs, from casual record shots to professional perfectionism. As with wine drinking, if you don't appreciate the difference, don't waste your money.

Holy cow - 14 PAGES of comments? I use whatever I have handy, and I was happy to get the best iPhone so that when needed I had it ready. I prefer to use my DSLR, but when a bobcat is trotting up your street, you don't have time to grab the preferred tool.

(It's still a camera!)

So, would you hire me to use my cell phone for professional architectural photography?

Depends on how good you are with it.

I have a Samsung s20 ultra which has the awesome camera and I compared the pictures taken with DSLR with prime lenses. Used the same subject, lighting and background.
To my naked eye, there's not much difference. Have any of you noticed that phenomenon? In that case, may be I should just carry my cell phone for vacations etc..

I use my cell phone to make and receive phone calls. My DSLRs are used to make and send images. My kids just laugh but I produce more images than both of them combined and on social media too.

I use all 3, a cell phone, an SLR and a DSLR. Have fun!

It's my opinion that due to the ubiquitous nature of the cell phone (aka smart phone, iphone, etc), people who might be averse to having a DSLR or other "conventional" camera pointed in their direction take little or no notice when a cell phone is being used to capture their image.

Like the Instamatics were.
Some people don't want <to carry> a big camera.
Phone camera results meet their needs.

If people don't see the jaw-dropping impact in these, well, there's simply no hope for you 🙄

Learn the limitations, such as dynamic range or low-light issues or how large you can print, as mentioned - just as you would with any camera that's not top tier.

Indeed, I've submitted a couple of photos from my Google Pixel 2. One has been published as a cover for a trade journal and later won 2nd place category best cover for the annual FMA Charlie Awards. The other was printed 3' x 4' as a finalist for intercompany competition and held up. I couldn't agree with you more.
