Good question and I'm not 'sure'. The logo and printing look identical to my ten-year-old original but slightly lighter in color. Seems to work like the original... so far; so good! Thank you!

Thanks very much for all the replies. I am grateful for all your accumulated experience and expertise.

I just had a look on line and the wasabi ones that seemed the most recommended off brand batteries seem to be currently unavailable everywhere, so I guess I'll be going with the Nikon!

Did you go directly to their website?

I have found that Nikon brand batteries last much longer than off brands. That being said, I would suggest that you buy one of the off brands and one Nikon brand, then rotate the usage and test for your own satisfaction.

I have yet to keep a camera for more than several years but have always used 3rd party batteries as well as originals.

I'm currently shoot Sony A7R4 and have 5 batteries, four 3rd party and an original that came with the camera. Some of the generics are from the A7R3 which I sold a year ago, so they would be almost two years old.

I shoot nearly every day, weather permitting and rotate the batteries, FIFO. All charge to 100% and if there is a difference in discharge rate it must be very small.

I have used generics along with the originals over the years for all my Sony, Nikon (mostly Nikon) and Canon cameras. Except for Canon years ago all worked to my satisfaction. Some would not charge in the Canon charger but worked in a generic charger and in the camera. I'm not advocating for any batteries...use whatever makes you comfortable.

From what I am reading here I must be blessed or the luckiest man alive.

The only issue that I have ever had with off brand batteries is that one of them would not charge in the Nikon branded charger, it charged just fine in the off brand charger (as did the Nikon brand battery).

Just echoing other's advice.

Do NOT buy real generics (unbranded or brands that you never heard of). Also do not buy branded batteries that are too cheap to be true. They are probably counterfeits.

Stick with well known brands, like Wasabi. They may not be as good as OEM, but thay are at least OK.

I have 1 Canon battery and 4 off brand. I keep the canon in my grip with ann off brand. Both have the same number of shots. as per the camera battery readout. The off brand doesnt hold a charge quite as long, but I have 3 extras, never had a problem

I wonder how many of the “only oem” crowd only use FOMOCO oil in their Ford vehicles, or the GM brand in their GM vehicles, etc. Seems the same rationale should apply, doncha think?

Get OEM when you can. Off-brand are built to the "minimum" spec. A penny saved is often a penny wasted.

Unless, of course, that they are the ones that are making the OEM's for Nikon (same goes for canon, fuji, sony, etc., etc.).

I'm looking at getting a/some spare batteries got a Nikon d7200, there is a large price difference between Nikon's and some of the generic alternatives.

Is it worth paying the premium for the Nikon one's, in peoples experience?

In my personal Opinion, I buy ONLY Nikon EN-EL-14a Batteries for my Nikon D3300. Yes there are alternatives that will work (maybe), but how long and is there any possibility that an "Off-Brand" battery might damage your camera. I have some "Peace of Mind" feeling that the Nikon Batteries I buy will be more reliable and safer to use in MY Camera. Again, a Personal Choice. I presently own 3 Nikon batteries and 2 Nikon chargers

Oil composition is highly regulated in that all oil is sold by its Declared composition. The regulations apply to making sure that the behavior claimed on the can is actually behavior of the oil in the can. For car oil it’s xxWyy (10W40) number. The actual composition of the product is up to the producer - how they get to the behavior is up to the refiner. The real value add with oil is in how long will it retain its properties beyond the minimum in the standard. Which is where the other labels on the can come from such as synthetic.

Point here is all oil of a given full specification is exactly the same. Not close but exactly. Doesn’t matter who you buy it from. Gas is regulated too - but only for some things (octane, lead, ethanol).

The oil my car uses is esoteric - so I have the dealer do the service as it saves me the time of getting the right thing. So I use OEM in both cases.

This topic floats to the surface every couple months or so. From my readings, there are three distinct segmentations here: never third party, only oem; mostly oem, but some use of third party (my group); and the “who gives a rat’s ass, I'll use what ever fits in the little cavity and makes the camera fire when I push the little round button on top” crowd. If I have gleaned anything from these many and varied postings, it seems to me that failure seems to be rare, regardless of whether the battery is oem or third party.

My own experience in close to 30 yrs of digital shooting, I use mostly oem, but I also have-and still use quality third party batteries. The single failure in all these years and many cameras and batteries, has been an Olympus battery, where the cover separated and would not stay in place. A couple drops of instant glue and all was well.

I think that lengthy experience speaks for itself.

Ok, all you “oem’ers only,” jump in.
