Before Win95, all users shared everything. Unless just one person ever uses the computer, I cannot imagine why you would want to go back to that.
I own three Mac's--a mini at home, and 2 Imac's at the studio. Each seem to have been setup differently. I do have the same issues with PW and log-ins. Problem is I don't know which requires this and which require that! My usual Mac guy still hasn't made it out my way yet, so I mumble lost in space!

I should have given better directions. To avoid signing in with your password when you turn your computer on, after getting in with the password this last time, go to Preferences and choose General, then select "Security & Privacy". Choose "Set Password", on the next screen, put in your current password, press Tab and when the box asks for your new password, hit your "enter" key on the keyboard. You will then be asked to verify the new password, again hit the "enter" keyboard key. A bit further down, select the Change Password box ,(mine is in blue); if asked for a word hint, either pass or type in "password is hitting "enter" on the keyboard". Now when turning on your computer, the icon you chose will show up with the box under it asking for your password, just hit enter on your keyboard and very quickly your desktop will populate with your icons. Also this will work when you are changing something and the computer asks you to enter your password to confirm your administrative approval for this change you're making; hit enter and things will move on.
