Thanks for posting this story. Enlightening, uplifting, encouraging. I met many Germans in the USA and in Germany who were alive during WWII. They needed to feel accepted before they would talk honestly, openly about life under Nazi rule. If they felt you weren't judgmental, you might learn quite a bit from them.

My former boss, the German President of Rollei USA, told me of being a young boy and his family's struggles getting something to eat at that time.
