instead of school and work my daughter an family were home when a mother duck got bullied by another and flew off from their pond. The other ducks started to attack the ducklings left behind which were only a few says old. Dad and daughters were in the pond waist deep while my daughter overlooked the rescue operation and gleefully said she only got a boot full of water where the others went in fully clothed.. (Its a big pond) Erin the youngest aged 14 is now mother to them and they sleep in her bedroom at night under a heat lamp I have and they have a compound in the garden with a nice pond for then to swim in.. As this all happened two days ago and luckily I can now go and see them as we are a bubble family with the covid 19 rules as of the 13th I went over with my camera... There are 6 in total.. They are not fully water proof yet so one or two have to be warmed up after a swim and its such a hard job to cuddle them to warm them up..

You are welcome Linda, its worth a wet tee shirt and being pooped on to get to cuddle them to warm them up and get dry. You pop them back down and they are straight in the water again.. Sarah said she was very surprised to see that it was the other mother ducks that killed young of another duck as she thought it was birds or the mink getting them. As she said they have learnt a lot since the lock down of what does happen on the pond.. There are ducks, canada geese and moorhens living there..

Thank you very much l-fox, up date on this story is that a duckling that was being harassed belonged to another mother and got caught with the others. This morning while I was there she was looking for him as she heard him call and he was stood on his own in the outdoor pen. Erin caught him and let him go near to his mother hoping it was the right duckling. He ran straight to her and bumped beaks and that was that. Home with mom and siblings so she now has 9 again...

Thank you very much Sylvia. They have a big pen out doors which they are in weather permitting and one in Erin's bedroom(as she is foster Mum)to sleep in at night and during the day if needed with a heat lamp till they are old enough to fend for themselves .. Saw them again today and they are duck diving and pop up about a foot away. Cuteness overload and big time wasters..
