Ignorant? You disagree with my statement that hand sanitizers do not kill anaerobes?
I suggest you Google that before calling someone else "ignorant".

Better re-read "your" statement that I responded to. Sorry, but you left that wide open for dissection...
And!!! Better read up on Cavacide!!! It's just maybe sorta used in surgical suites for a reason...

The purpose of a mask is to keep you and others safe, but if the mask is dirty, that's no good. I don't like the idea of putting masks in the washing machine, but an online article suggested cleaning them in the dishwasher. You have a combination of very hot water, soap, and high-pressure spray. I'm going to try it with the next load.

What kind of mask? A cloth mask can be washed with the rest of the laundry. If you want to be sure, put it in with whites and use standard liquid bleach. A N95 needs to be sterilized with heated peroxide; not something to do at home. N95 masks have multiple layers, and if one of the inner layers becomes damaged the mask may look fine but not work right. Surgeons masks will fall apart in the laundry, and likely in the dishwasher. A nurse friend has 3 N95's, stores them in separate paper bags, and cycles them every 3 days.
