Doc tells me that the really colorful damselflies are Ebony Jewelwings (first two images). The other one is a Bluet. Don't know what kind of spider that is but he/she is pretty small. Try the downloads for best viewing of these small critters.

And a sparkling jewel, at that!

It seems there are a lot of orb-weaving spiders with colorful bodies. I find it fascinating to watch how they construct their webs.

Linda, I think you are right about the spider, but these guys were less than 1/2" from the tips of their toes (do spiders have toes?). Most of the orb weavers I am familiar with are much, much larger so really did not make the connection until your comment. Thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment!
