In a thread in another section, the discussion started out focused on manipulating photographs. That is putting things in that weren't there in the first place. This also involved the idea that the software makers will be able to sort of make you the photographer you aren't.
It's here if you wish to read it.
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-648772-1.htmlWithin that thread, I mentioned posting some of my photos as a SOOC/Processed comparison. I'm somewhat of a purist in that I'm going to work with what's there. However, I'm going to use my photograph processing skills to produce a final photograph that is the result of my vision of the scene as I viewed it and contemplated photographing it. So here are the SOOC / Processed images. I will reveal, as a lot of UHH members know, that I'm a big proponent of using The Zone System. I use that in my initial captures as well as in processing.

Looks like you're catching on to this photography stuff.
Your advice & tips have been very helpful to me over the last few years.
I tend to fall into a 'purist' category somewhat similar to yours, Bob. Except when I don't.
Little by little. Thanks for the compliment.

Thank you for letting me know that. That actually means quite a lot to me.

Thanks for stopping by, Cany. I'm sort of along the same lines myself.

I'm evolving, too. Although I kind of lament that, with today's software, it actually IS possible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
I'm more like you, Bob, in the way I go about processing my images. That's not to say I don't love a lot of the cool composites and other processing that others do. I just don't have the ability to do those kinds of things. I love and admire the creativity of the folks on this forum.
"I'm going to use my processing skills to produce a final photograph that is the result of my vision of the scene as I viewed it and contemplated photographing it." Skilled photography technicians (who started learning their craft 40 or 50 years ago) must at times feel a bit like master woodworkers or tailors when mass production of furniture and clothing began. Though I first picked up a camera 60 years ago, in the past 10 years I've been having a great time wandering the paths of playful pp. I do occasionally keep the editing to a minimum - such as
here. It's
all part of the joy IMO.
We hobbyists understand we are in a transitional time, though pros mention changes too - such as less demand for wedding photographers. There's kind of a harsh moment in the movie "Moneyball" where Brad Pitt - as Billy Beane - says, "Adapt or die. Adapt or die." I prefer the more upbeat message from the Mamas and the Papas: "Make your own kind of music, sing your own special song, even if nobody sings along." ๐ค ๐
Thatโs nice processing, Bob!
Amazing transformations Bob - well done!!

I am glad that some of us respect and promote this very clean approach to photography. We should see more of this in this forum. These photos show someone who has a firm grasp of his notion of what a good picture looks like and how to achieve it. Thanks for posting and thanks to those who appreciate these skills and photographic vision.
