A very impressive portrait, and I'm glad that you now shoot with your camera. When I think about killing an animal I always think about Aldo Leopold (I think it was Aldo Leopold but will surely be corrected if I'm wrong) saying that he watched the light go out of a cougar's eyes after he'd shot it, and he never wanted to kill again.
