This beautiful gobbler was called from the nearby woods into a grassy opening and photographed from a portable blind at a distance of about 30 yards.

Beautiful bird and photo. Did you do the calling? Pretty good to call him that far out of the woods. Does he not get hunted?

I did the calling. I hunted turkeys for over 40 years before I took up photography. I now enjoy hunting with a camera more than I did with a gun. This bird was about 45 yards from the tree line and it was midway through Turkey season.

You must have been singing him a sweet song! I used to hunt too, in a younger world. But I could never sing that sweet of a song.

That morning I used a diaphragm call. Here are other shots of the same bird - one gobbling, then in half strut and finally in full strut.
