D.I.Y. Lightbox Project

Steve DeMott Loc: St. Louis, Missouri (Oakville area)

I saw a youtube video from Allen Wells about a lightbox built out of 1/2" PVC. His version was a 24"x24" square with lots of attachments.
I made a few enhancements that greatly makes this a more flexible unit.
1. I put outrigers on both sides. This allows the speed lights placement further away fro more light control.
2. Tweaking the size a tad allows a Godox 24" square softbox fit on top.
3. Cut some scrim fabric to cover the sides & top allowing continuous lighting to be used.
4. Painted the framework a flat black to reduce any unwanted reflections. Don't know if that will help but it looks good.
5. There's a power strip bolted to the back of the frame
6. There's a 12" LED light mounted on the top front cross member with an On/Off switch. This is turned off when shooting. It's for set-up & focusing when the light is low.
7. A focusing rail can be mounted to the bottom-front of the mounting board for close-up Macro work

I'm working on a top cross member to mount the camera facing down. Should make an excellent copier.

PVC Pipe & connection under $10.00. Four small Super clamps $8 ea. 11" articulating arm $16. 2 3" articulating arms $3 ea. Godox 24# softbox $38.

Thanks for for stopping by.
I'm always interested in other peoples comments & suggestions.

Anyone wanting more info, cutting diagram or parts list I'll be glad to share.

Steve

Thank you very much for sharing this information, Steve! I added a link in the Tutorials page I started in Close-Up Forum: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-645057-1.html

In going back through some of your photos, I think you know quite well how to take a photo and engaging ones, at that

Thanks Linda, you are a gem. That is a great idea. I'll send you a parts list and assembly instructions maybe you can add it to the post.

There is also a list in PP Forum that Searcher started years ago for processing tutorials, which I'm trying to remember to keep up with:

Of course, anything can be found on You-Tube these days, but I like the idea of having an index with contributions from UHH members.
