6 months ago I bought a used Nikon body which was in excellent condition, via eBay. All in all I am very happy.

The camera has an odor which could be cologne. Or cigar smoke. It is faint but my sense of smell is exceptionally sensitive.

Anyone have some good suggestions?

I have washed with detergent and a rag. I have used vinegar. I have used 70% EtOH. I have left it in the sun to gently encourage outgassing. My next effort will be to use a reasonably strong application of O3. It is very effective with smoke and tends to eliminate hand lotion odors which annoy me.

Thanks for any ideas.

1. Be very glad you are not a hound dog or cat or some other mammal with a sense of smell that far exceeds that of humans.

2. Try putting on one of those older RadioActive Canon or Pentax Takumar f/1.4 50mm lenses. That with your Ozone should "fry" and odorous molecules.

3. Get a different used camera; resell it on eBay and get one from a non-smoking or cologne using home.

You can always sell the camera to KEH or B&H and buy another one. That will definitely get rid of the problem.

What camera are we talking about anyway, is it weather sealed? If a camera smelled like cologne or cigar smoke, how objectionable can that be?

I’m having a hard time trying to figure out, how after all you’ve done, that you can’t remove the odor. Does the camera have a strap on it, or did it come with a camera bag where the odor is coming from.
Hope you succeed removing the smell.

Ozone. When I was a kid, back in the mid '40s all schools had light fixtures mounted near the ceiling and a blue light shone upward. These were UV lights and produced some ozone as a byproduct. We never had flue or cold epidemics in that time, germs did not stand a chance.

I remember the same thing. I started in kindergarten, in Detroit, in a temporary classroom just after WWII ended. (1947 to be exact) Those UV lights and the cursive writing samples along the ceiling have stuck in my memory for my entire life. When the current virus dejour became an issue I thought to myself, why don't we try that again?

Is the smell coming from inside the camera? Or is it only on the outside.

The smell was coming from the inside the camera. IT KEH problem now, not my.

This is some spray that eliminates odor very well. It is on Amazon, but may find elsewhere.
