When you buy a new camera, do you recommend purchasing the extended warranty?

Hello to all you seasoned UHH camera buyers,
I would love your opinion on whether you think it is worth the extra $153 for the accidental damage protection (3yrs) and customer care (2yrs). Thanks!

Kerfree...
I bought a paper shredder about 20 years ago. It was around $100.00. It came with a one year warranty. For a few more bucks I got an extended two year warranty. My plan was to wait until the waranty was about up and run a 2X4 through it and get a new one. I use it every day at home. As luck would have it... the warranty ran out. It still works perfectly to this day. The warranty was well worth the extra money! LOL :-D

I'm with handgunner. I find the insurance policies are too expensive. My experience is that if the equipment lasts thru the manufacturer's warranty, it's going to outlive the insurance policy too. By the same token, I don't abuse my equipment.....I don't sky dive, deep dive, rock climb, motocross, or any other mildly dangerous things with my equipment. (My wife won't let me :D ) I still have a Canon A1 and Maxxum 7000 in full working order. How about taking all the cash you spend on insurance policies and just investing it in new equipment? MUCH more fun!

Guess it's a gamble, like everything else in life! I do wish my camera had half the life of your paper shredder!

No you don't! In five years you're going to be itching to upgrade. In ten years they'll have capabilities we're not even thinking about yet. You know I'm right and you know you'll want them.

I'm on my fifth? computer? I bought my new one when it first came out. When the new ones come out they are already obsolete in the manufacturer's eyes. They were already months if not years into upgrading it for a new market. Did you see the News this morning about kids camping out days in Front of Apple for the new cell phones? I have a cell phone and the contract ran out and I have no need for a new one. Why?....
It still rings when someone is calling me.

Talk on your phone.....how quaint! I use mine as a:
-Kindle (it works quite well and syncs with my real Kindle)
-Calendar and schedule reminder
-Weather station where ever I go
-Alarm clock
-Game Boy (Words with Friends is good [its like scrabble])
-Car finder/reminder at the mall
-Cheap parking lot finder in NYC
-Zagats
-Sky Caddie (free downloadable courses w/ SkyDroid)
-Guitar/Uke tuner
-Email/Gmail
-Discount coupons at checkout
-Price comparison shopping (just click on the barcode)
etc., etc., etc.

The uses are ENDLESS! Millions of free apps. You'd have to be a flat earther not to dig into the gazilion things your 'phone' can do. I can even use it as my boarding pass with the TSA at airports. Only a phone? Now that's funny.

I've owned all sorts of cameras for over forty years, and one has never needed repair.

Sorry for my lack of the need for all those Apps.... I simply need a cell to communicate with the people I don't want to talk to.

Oh that. I don't communicate. That's my wife's job.

And by the way.....I don't think I EVER used the word need. These are amazing toys!
