My health issues have basically killed my photography. It's been over a year since I took a photograph with my 'proper' gear... At some point, I will see about selling some of the camera stuff, but that isn't my current worry. I have had the Adobe 'photographers package' right from the very beginning, but I really do not need to be paying every month for it any more. I know it's not a lot, but it now seems to be a waste.
My biggest concern is, what happens to my existing collection of photos, if I quit the subscription? Not storage - they are all on my PC, not in the cloud. I have thousands of photos, mostly CR2 or dng formats.
Will I be able to still access them if needed, once I cut the cord with Adobe?

Quit the Cloud and invest $50 in Affinity Photo. You'll certainly be able to access your photos, and Affinity will do whatever you need to do with them -- anything Photoshop did for you. Adobe is a greedy grabber, but I'm sure they can't grab your photos if they're stored on your computer.

They are your photos on your computer. I believe Adobe allows access to them even if your subscription expires; but you will not be able to do any further post processing.
You can always save them in a universally recognized format (jpeg, tiff, dng) and then access them from any other software that recognizes those file types.

You can also try ON1 Photo Raw 2020.1. It can read Adobe’ catalog and sidecar files, thus allowing you to preserve edits.

Not sure I understand the question.
If the images are on YOUR PC then you have access to them.
But not with any Adobe catalog program.
Whether or not you can DO anything with them would require another editor/catalogger of some sort.

You are mostly correct. Photoshop is still indispensable for some processing.

What I know - images stored on your computer are just files, accessible using any software that can read the file format.
What I have read - once your subscription lapses, Photoshop no longer functions at all, Lightroom continues to work in library mode, giving you access to your current images in your catalog along with the metadata. The develop module ceases to function, so additional edits are not possible, but the quick edits may still function.
Of course, adjustments not exported are only readable and understandable by Adobe products.

Your images are still yours and on your PC but you need software to open those files. I don't think software that came with Windows (I don't know about the Mac) can open CR2 or DNG. So you basically have to get another software to replace Adobe software. I think you can get free software from Canon to open CR2.

Agreed!
And Xffinity Photo has features that PS does not.
I use it alongside XnView MP, which is free.

If you no longer use the Adobe products it makes no sense to keep paying for them. As long as you have saved your photos in a format your computer can open (jpeg for example) they will be there for you until your computer dies. And it will eventually so back up your photos on at least one external hard drive. Sorry to hear about your health issues. I image it's getting in the way of your trombone playing too.
