The member I referred to in my original post wasn’t Paul, and if you read the quote I cited in that original post, that was not the intent.

Walt

Yea, I tried to figure which name I wanted to use, changed it once, I picked poorly.
So Paul Diamond didn't make the statement used in your quote?

The thought still stands though.

Currently I am not proficient in PS. I use it to remove unwanted items with Fill, Content aware, and that's about it. I use LR for all other editing and I consider my Images to be "finished" when I "finish" editing in LR. I would like to become more proficient at both LR & PS and have looked at many Adobe tutorials and You Tube videos trying to better my techniques. However, I become easily distracted, especially when the sun is shining and I can work outside. All that being said, a "finished image" is what the photographer considers to be a finished image.

I'm not proficient in much of anything, but your statement about a "finished image" is what the photographer considers to be a finished image" leads me to comment that is the sort of statement that leads to pages of quibbling on this site. Does the photographer think there is no additional steps he/she can take to enhance or improve the image, or is merely ready for whatever reason to declare it finished? Yes the photographer may consider the imaged "finished" but virtually anyone who views a particular image could considered it substandard perhaps even the photographer, him or herself. When we view a photograph, we usually cannot interview the photographer about their intentions about when they made the image or what their intentions were during post processing. The image stands or falls based on what is enclosed between the four corners of the photograph. Thanks

If I am not mistaken parametric editors can do localized adjustments - Capture One and Darktable, for example - so a bitmap editor like Photoshop is not absolutely necessary to do that work.

We really need to compare Photoshop to other bitmap editors, and Light Room to other parametric editors.

Can a photograph be finished without going to a bit map editor? That's the question. "Rarely" would be my answer for what I am doing. However, I can certainly see the advantages to moving as much of the work as possible to parametric editing.

As a former art director I'll be glad to show something. What type of subject would you like to see a Before and After in? Just as an example...

I don't do product shots. I work outdoors and do nothing to the images except minor tweaking. It all depends on how you like to work and the results you want.

Unfortunately, days-long quibbling is at least 25% of what goes on here.
