Why should DSLRs disappear?
Film included a variety camera types and formats.
DSLRs, mirrorless, and cell phones are all digital. Advances in sensor resolution continue, which will probably be limited by practical file size, not technology.

Practical file size is limited by technology.

Yep, mine too, I still use my D100, my 55-300 tele hasn't been off of it in 20 years!

I’m starting to fall in love again with my D50 with the 18-200 lens and the CCD sensor. Just reviewed images I took in Maui in 2007. Amazing colors.

The photographers investments and liking in DSLR's will go on for quite a while.
Their are thousands of lens over the world for DSLR's some very expensive.
I still like my Nikon in one hand using the camera. Strap on my arm.
The quality of the gear was superb.

I like my Sony's now the a7s II and the lens are good. The ability to see
exactly what the shot or video will look like is just so good to have.
(please correct me if I am wrong about it. Being a videographer the
last few years being able to see your exposure choices and the color
etc is just to good. Yes the camera's are smaller. I think that helps
in keeping a low pro file on the street or at an event. This will be
a slow progress and change and by the will have cell phones
that take great pix. They are close now.

If I were to ever add an MILC I would first consider the Nikon Z50 DX camera. Basically the same size and weight body as my D3400.

I not a big fan of digital cameras, but I don't see that happening. What you may see is that cameras will become smaller. What CONVI 19 has done to high teach, who known what a " camera" will be in a few years. Very word "camera" could become no more.

It is a chaotic confusion of various digital
cameras and sensors.

With film it was one camera fits all.
When I upgraded to a higher $camera the quality of photos did not change!
