Ancient? Maybe. But resolutely immature forever!

I remember Joe and seeing the bicycle strip but do not remember anything about it. The other I don't remember at all. Here in this part of PA we have East Stroudsburg University. It is common to see kids wearing sweatshirts with a big ESU on the front. Each time I see that I'm reminded of a cartoon where this huge football player named Tank McNamara is the main character. He always was wearing an ESU sweatshirt but in that case it stood for Enormous State University.
I haven't thought about Tank M. in a long time. It's fun to recall things we used to see everyday or every Sunday.
Great memories. Always enjoyed Joe Palooka, single digits back then, as well.
I always feel an affinity for Pennsylvanians. I never know the cartoonist was from Wilkes-Barre. Good to know.
Joe Palooka appeared in comic strips contained in each wrapped piece of Bazooka Bubble Gum. It was always a hard choice for me to buy Bazooka for Joe's strip or Double Bubble which blew better bubbles and the taste lasted longer. Oh, the price of bubble gum? A penny a piece.

who remembers the comic strip OZARK IKE?
or JOE PALOOKA? his managers mane? or the guy with the bicycle powered house trailer
I said remembered, not googled it.
I remember Joe Palooka and his bubble gum, but not Ozark Ike.
I do remember Joe also I to was in single digits.
If I recall correctly, Joe Palooka and Bazooka Joe were not the same cartoon character.
I think Tank McNamara was great! I still remember the woman who led the cheerleader squad. She was drawn with 15-year-old's body and a 60-year-old woman's head.
I remember Joe Palooka, but not much about him other than it was a comic strip.

Stan
And I'm getting ancient-er in 11 days!
I remember the house trailer but can't recall the name of the driver. Seems to me he looked like Wimpy from Popeye. Most of those older comic strips disappeared from the comic pages in the 50's in the northern states but hung around till the 70's in the south. One of the pleasures of vacationing in the south was reading the Sunday funnies.

He was a boxer - but it had little boxing content.
