hi team=looking for ideas re purchase of a new backpack for hiking -currently using a Kata or general backpack neither which suits purpose -Kata is well made but uncomfortable and roams around shoulders whilst carrying.
and standard hiking pack does not have protection for gear.

size 30L ? and from experience must have waist and sternum straps

I generally carry a DSLR a couple of lenses and a pair of binoculars - tripod plus usual snacks and flask of coffee/water.

there is obviously lots of advice on YouTube and other media formats with pros and cons on most bags reviewed
but looking for advice/ideas on 1st hand experience

Check out Shimoda- I am anxiously awaiting my ActionX pack; unfortunately the virus situation delayed things more than they expected. I did check out the Explore pack at B & H and it is very well made. Both seem to have excellent, well thought out features for both photographers and backpacking. I have been seeing Thomas Heaton, Brandon Vanson, Gavin Hardcastle and Adam Gibbs wearing them on their more recent YouTube videos. Shimoda did send them the packs, but I'm assuming that if they didn't like them, they would not be using them.

I have had Many Lowepro bags over the years. If you look at Lowepro bags empty they weigh a considerable amount. I now use F Stop bags all have an internal frame and weigh considerable less than Lowepro camera bags. F Stop bags are extremely comfortable.

thanks Team - Mein Fehurer thinks I will end up with bags under my eyes with me constantly search specifications and indeed prices on all suggestions and ideas of bags - the big issue as we are all aware is the fact with current lockdown we cannot travel to shop and try- feel weight and see how the straps fit - lots of our forum members have suggested Lowepro and with this in mind I had shortlisted the Lowepro protactic 350 aw 11 but I never thought about weight of bag until Steve just brought it too my attention - eh ho !! I use a Bilingham messenger bag for a city walk around carry bag -great bit of kit but obviously no good whatsoever for hiking up mountains ( little mountains and hills) so my thoughts are know if I can get something to use all-round it would be useful - but that would take me off current path and just stick to sorting out a hiking bag as a priority - many thanks once again guys and gals it certainly isn't boring looking for the perfect bag - as we know the holy grail doesn't exist but its fun looking for it!!!
