The Kalm's St. Johnswort shrub is covered in ice, and the green leaves are Nodding wild onion. You can see a little frost damage on the onion leaves. The chipmunks are extremely tame here, but for some reason they don't like the 400mm lens and run for their lives when I point it at them. I can walk right up to within inches of them with a 50mm lens on the camera, no problem. But not the 400mm.

My thought on the animals running is that a 50mm does not look like a shotgun.

I think you are correct.

I remember in the orchard that at 100 yards the crows could tell the difference between a rifle and a black broom handle.

Thanks Carol. 50 degrees and sunny today with Spring beauty blooming like crazy and Dutchman's breeches and Squirrel-corn in bud and not far behind.

Nice work, Mike!
I read somewhere that a camera lens looks like an eye to them. A 400mm lens might be too scary.
