The Durango/Silverton Narrow gauge Steam Engine railroad. During the summer months the town of Durango run 3 different type of 1920's steam engines up the the old silver mining town of Silverton. They were used to bring down the silver and gold from the ore mines in the San Juan mountains. Today its a awesome trip from Durango to Silverton and have a option to take a bus ride back.
Beautiful photos! I've attached a couple of mine from 49 years ago this month that were scanned from slides. We rode the train both ways (I don't recall the bus as an option then). The engine was number 473. We were on our honeymoon, a 3,500 mile road trip. I've also attached one of Silverton from U.S. 550, the Million Dollar Highway, on our way from Durango to Colorado Springs. That is a great drive that I want to do again.
