“Better if” ???

Paul’s advice is too understated. You MUST set the FL in the menu or else your IBIS can do more harm than help.

As a user of various manual lenses I use the Fn menu for faster access. IIRC I used to have an Fn button dedicated to setting the FL for the IBIS. But I needed the button for other use. The Fn menu is fast enuf for my needs.

The Pentax IBIS system asks for focal length {without prompting} if you mount any lens that doesn't report FL itself {input is via 'e-dial' between viewfinder and AF/AE-L button}.

Did you try your camera's manual(s)? Searching 'SteadyShot' should give you the details.

That's why you text search the online version. Or, consult the index just like any product manual ever. You're going to have to 'up' your game if you're unfamiliar with these standard practices.

isn't the "manual on-line" the "online version?" don't need your lecture

Assuming the good habit of powering off to swap lenses, LUMIX also does that. It does it whenever you power it on with a “dumb” lens already mounted, even if that lens has been there for days.

It not only varies between similar Sony models but it also changes with updates to your camera’s FW. Find the section that deals with AF settings.

I DL the pdf version so I can search offline ... my PC is faster offline than the speed of my internet connection.

Why did you provide a general Nikon reference?

Nikon uses their own unique terms - even when they use body-based image stabilization - like for the Z6 - Nikon seems to call it "Vibration Control" rather than the "Image Stabilization" used by most companies.

Image stabilization, vibration compensation, and vibration reduction are all similar.

IBIS, or In BODY Image Stabilization, is a mechanism and firmware in the camera body that compensates for camera shake, shutter shock, etc. during exposure with slower shutter speeds.

ILIS, or In LENS Image Stabilization, is a mechanism and firmware in the LENS that compensates for camera shake, etc.

Every manufacturer has a different acronym for image stabilization. You'll see IS, OIS, VR, VC, IBIS, ILIS, Dual IS, Dual IS II, and probably some I've forgotten. They all do pretty much the same things, but they do them to different degrees of effectiveness and with different technologies.

IBIS is generally most effective at focal lengths under 200mm FULL FRAME EQUIVALENT FIELD OF VIEW. ILIS is generally most effective at longer focal lengths.

So... Pay your money and take your choice.
Image stabilization, vibration compensation, and v... (show quote)
Thanks, you're faster than Google
