The fish tank chemical is not the same as the drugs used for Malaria. They have a similar name. The fish tank chemical clearly states not for human consumption on the label.

Since this if a photographic program I understand vodka is a good solution for cleaning camera lens. I have a little trouble getting it all the way to the lens. Funny my tonic water seems to evaporate too.

I read that this morning.... I'm trying to fact check it.

Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine are anti-malarial (I think) that have been suggested as a possible treatment for Covid-19, when used in conjunction with an anti-viral.

That's been mentioned and supposedly is currently being evaluated, but is not yet approved, by the FDA. It is being used to treat the Wuhan virus in other countries that have less rigid controls on medications and is being given serious consideration for use here, under medical supervision and in proper dosages.

There was another article over the weekend saying the opposite... Quoting a guy who claims treatment with chloroquine "saved his life". He was under a doctor's care, in the hospital with the coronavirus and getting worse with severe breathing problems even on a respirator. As a last resort the doctor tried dosing him with chloroquine (plus an anti-viral) and within 12 to 24 hours he was "much improved" and is "looking forward to leaving the hospital in 4 or 5 days".

I'd fact check this story, too.

Supposedly in a recent presser Trump stated it chloroquine had been FDA approved as a treatment. But according to doctors it has not. It's still being evaluated. It is a widely used and well known drug, so side effects and proper dosage aren't the issue. The FDA is looking into efficacy... I.e., testing if it's actually effective treating someone ill with the Wuhan virus.

Supposedly the guy who died (and his wife) took chloroquine phosphate not to treat any illness... neither of them were known to have the virus (or at the very least they were asymptomatic). They took it as a preventative... which it definitely ain't!!!

Buried deep down in the story it was stated that what they took wasn't even medical chloroquine... it was a product used to clean aquariums! Heelloooooo!!! There was no indication what quantities he and his wife took, either. Heck, too much vitamin A, vitamin D or aspirin can kill you! Even too much water can kill you (it's called "drowning" ).

There's tons of misinformation being spewed about coronavirus and the pandemic. Take it all with a grain of salt and be careful!

By the way... chloroquine was invented by Fujifilm's medical division. Their stock went way up when news about that came out. Too bad the patent on it ran out years ago and they won't see a penny profit from any spike in sales if it proves to be effective and sees wide demand.

As far as vodka etc. is concerned, one doctor said it would be pretty effective killing viruses and bacteria if it was used to wipe down surfaces... but not effective against the virus when drunk. However, after a few drinks you probably won't care.

P.S. I deleted 226 emails from my spam filter yesterday! About a week's worth, a lot of them were "cures" or preventatives for the virus.

Here in California the smoke shops and gun stores are closed (non-essential businesses). But the marijuana dispensaries and liquor stores are open... Apparently they're "essential", like grocery stores, laundromats, gas stations, auto parts and office supply stores. Can't get a hair cut or a manicure... And can't go work out at the gym. Dressing up in a T. Rex costume doesn't protect against coronovirus or exempt you from quarantine. It's okay to walk your dog. Just stay 6 feet from other people (the following invention appears to only be effective to about 3 or 4 feet).
I read that this morning.... I'm trying to fact ch... (show quote)

I am a pharmaceutical scientist. Hydroxychloroquine is FDA approved for Malaria. It is possible to use drugs for off label purposes when other treatments are unavailable or have failed. This is of course under a physicians supervision. Because Hydroxychloroquine is FDA approved it is known to be safe. The efficacy for COVID-19 is what is somewhat unknown. In the present state the FDA will allow off label use. The process for FDA approval is a multi year process involving many expensive clinical trials. Pharmacist compounded drugs are used a fair bit especially for geriatric and pediatric patients. These formulations are NOT FDA approved but are allowed.

All drug formulations contain excipients that are not active. The excipients used for fish tanks may be not suitable for ingestion. Dose is also very important. Not too much or to little. All drugs are poisons that when used in appropriate doses have beneficial effects.

The label on the fish tank chemical is fairly meaningless. The material may be fine or not fine for human consumption. The manufacturer is simply not selling this for human consumption and thus has not done all of the expensive and necessary work to make it so.

A man in AZ died, and his wife is in critical condition after they took something that they thought would prevent them from getting infected by the virus. There is no medication and no vaccine for this virus, so don't take a chance with your own remedies.

The guy was stupid. He ingested Industrial Animal Medicine containing a key ingredient to fight off cover-19

For what it's worth, the FDA approves a medications based on their safety claims produced from described clinical testing, studies, reports, etc.. The FDA does not approve nor claim any drugs effectiveness so keep that in mind and choose wisely.
