So my daughter does a lot of children ‘s portraits and wants good full frame. Really likes Nikon. Is a used D750 a good choice? Totally do not know if going to mirrorless is right move or if D850 is overkill for most work Thoughts?

A D750 is a great choice. I have one that I use mostly with a Tamron 45mm f/1.8 SP VC lens. I use that lens for outdoor environmental type portraits. Very few prime lenses have stabilization. Its vibration compensation really helps when hand holding the camera. The D850 is an awesome camera but not necessary.

If she likes mirrorless then it's a good choice. It's the matter or whether you like it. I don't think the D850 is overkill. It has better sensor but if the sensor is overkill then she can use it forever. The improvements in future camera is likely mostly the sensor.

The D750 is an excellent choice. I would not spend the extra money on a D850 unless she plans to do it professionally. Although I do use mine professionally, I also got it with the intention that at almost 62, I am hoping it will be the last DSLR body I will ever need, especially since all of my lenses are manual focus AIS (and I see no need to change that) and I don't know how much longer Nikon is going to keep including the aperture sensing lug around the lens mount around.

As nice as the D750 is and it really is there is just so much more in photography you can grow and learn with a D850.

The D850 is an outstanding camera but not necessary. One thing to consider is that the high resolution D850 needs excellent lenses. The link below is Nikon's list of recommended lenses for the D850.

Here's a shot I did with my D750 with Tamron 45mm f/1.8 lens. The D750 is more than sufficient for the photos of the children. It's been a workhorse for wedding photographers. The D610 mentioned by a UHH member above would be an excellent buy.

Does she own full-frame lenses?

With all due respect, if it is your daughter taking the portraits then it should probably be your daughter who researches and decides what camera is right for her.

That's not how it is done. Instant gratification is the new battle cry.
