I gave up buying Sony equipment 30+ years ago as everything I bought let me down, generally just outside warranty. I gave them a second, third, fourth etc. chance but enough was enough. No more. I also knew someone who worked in their servicing dept and the returns statistics were frightening.

Maybe they are better now but I'm not risking it, and in any case I am extremely happy with Canon.

Come on! Where are you getting your information other than made up! I’ve owned Sony electronics for years including high end TV’s and Never had a failure or a problem. It’s people like you that spread False Truths! I’m glad you’re happy with Canon. They are Fabulous!

I own several Sony cameras and wonder why some Hoggers hate the brand? Y’all know who I’m talking about. I remember one poster said “I’d Never buy a camera from a company who used to make toasters!” It’s just something I don’t understand!

For the same reason some are Canon haters, some are Nikon haters, some are Fuji haters, some are Panasonic haters, some are Leica haters, some are Hasselblad haters. Are you starting to get the picture?

Precisely!

I wonder if the Nicanonites hated it when it was Minolta, too.

(forgot to press the Quote button ~ this was a response to markwilliam1's "Is it because Sony is now treading on Sacred Ground?")

Who/What is Minolta? Do they make cameras? Oh maybe you mean Miranda as in Sensorex.

Honestly this entire thread sounds like a hoax to me. Sony, Nikon, Canon and numerous others, yes, including Minolta and Miranda (once upon a time) made cameras and every one was great. But just like bread, toothpaste, automobiles and licorice we all have our preferences. Not a bad one in the bunch.

Nikon is one of the very best camera companies in the world.

Experiences are what makes shooters wind up with certain camera's.
I loved cameras from my first serious camera a Pentax Spotmatic.
Had many Nikon's for years. They were are joy. We had an AV slide
shows company and had a bunch of Nikon's with 35mm lens. Crazy
about the D300 and D700 Bought 2 Nikon D800's with the idea of
doing more video with them. Some hiccups still good camera's.
Went to London with a Sony NEX-5 mirrorless and began taking
pix. I liked the images a lot. The size of the camera and what it
put out impressed me. Eventually this led to the Sony a7 which
video film makers were using next to big camcorders and the
a7s was amazing in low light. Got a Sony XD series camcorder.
Today have a number of Sony Camera's. I know the Canon's
imagery is great the camcorders are great a bit pricey.
So experience and timing sometimes creates our camera story.

Yes I thought so. Thanks. My entire post was basically tongue in cheek. I have owned a few Minolta cameras, Nikon, Leica, Hasselblad and others over the years since 1963.

Actually, Dennis, Nikon is an optical company that happens to make cameras, too.

My first introduction to digital cameras was Sony. I think I purchased 4 of them as new models came out. The last one I used was a DSC-F-707. The saving grace of any of those early models was Zeiss lenses. These were taken with the DSC-F-707. It did take a bit of working with the camera to get it to understand how I wanted exposures done.

Once a friend of mine introduced me to an FX Nikon, Sony became, somewhat, a thing of the past. I still use it for IR work, as it is very good for that right out of the box.

OK.
OK.

I should have added some smiley faces or thumbs up to show I was only joking. Sorry I forgot to add those. But seriously I have been a member here for a pretty long time and don't recall any haters of Sony cameras. Of course there are people who like specific camera brands and Sony is one of them. Sony makes great cameras. But how many of us have the dollars to purchase numerous different systems to see which is better than others. Most of us who buy into any system and like it will stay with that system.

Have a wonderful day,

Dennis

The greatest images are those that move you to buy the same type of camera.
