Thank you.

I had read the beginning of this thread when it was first posted, an just now had a look to see if you had found a solution yet.
It struck me that the two dark corners or not of the same size, this possibly indicates that the hood is not seated properly.
I'd suggest you take it off, then put it back on and twist it into place till you feel it catch or hear an audible click (assuming it's a bajonet attachment - if it is a screw on hood, make sure it is screwed on all the way.

I had the same problem once, mainly due to filters, removed them then ok. Also if your lens is set at 85mm back it off a little and will correct problem.

I'd really like to know what filters have to do with the hood vignetting: Attached are two photos: the first depicts the bayonet mount for the hood on the outside of the lens; the second shows the filter threads on the inside of the lens. So were your filters vignetting? or did you use one of those threaded rubber hoods?

Thanks

Relative to the first comment you see the hood at wider angles.

Relative to the second: there are aftermarket hoods that screw into a filter. They extend out futher and thus are more likely to be seen. I had a tulip one and recently threw it out.

Although you should never see it on a factory supplied hood I didn't get one with one of my lenses. I replaced the problematic tulip hood with a rubber one. They cost about $7. It will intefere at the widest angle setting for the lens but I can just push it back to fold it up. It provides great lens protection and I leave it on all the time. I just push it back for storage.

When your batterys get low on juice this will happen, How many photo's have you taken without changing the battery. Or when was the last time you charged your batt.

What will happen?

The battery being low doesn't misalign the hood.

I am thinking that maybe the lens hood cannot be used with the lens set at a focal length of 15 mm. That is a very wide angle.
Try some test shots at different focal lengths to see if the problem is consistent at all zoom levels.

You can not use the lens hood when using 15 mm lens. You must remove the hood. Its just to wide of a angle.
