I don’t wish to be negative in any way, however, I sometimes ask myself why on earth do our members say such wonderful things about some photographs submitted that are clearly poor. Some are either soft, out of focus, poorly composed and colourless and yet much of the dialogue submitted by viewers is over-the-top supportive and clearly not accurate. Might it be political correctness invading the forum or we need glasses? I get that we love to support one another, however, honesty or no comment at all might be far more appropriate perhaps...

Cheers!

A negative but honest comment. I myself do not believe in dumming down someone’s work. I think providing suggestions on how one might improve a post is very acceptable. Very pointed negative feedback can sometimes make someone feel like giving up.

There are several sections on UHH that encourage constructive feedback, including For Your Consideration, Landscape, Post-Processing Digital Images, Portrait and Critique.

Gallery is for sharing, and folks who post there may or may not be looking for critique. Though the majority of us can probably agree on the extremely "bad," there are many images that appeal to some people but not others.

I don’t praise when I think the pictures are bad but I avoid giving negative comments.

People have different values, standards and understanding of what is a quality image. You have no right to impose your views on others. If you don't like an image pass it by and keep your thoughts to yourself..

Ditto.
If I like it, even though it may not be "perfect", which is a relative condition, I say I like it.
