My most favorite is a DOMKE photo jacket which lets me carry a 8 F3.5, 16 F2.0, 35 F1.8, 50 F1.8, 85 F1.8 and 10X42 monocular with awesome weight distribution.

It seems like there are no one-size-fits-all preferences out there. But I did see some new options to investigate. Thanks for your input.

I have problems with camera bags on my shoulders so I switched to a bulky Think Tank belt system with a harness. So far (one month) it seems the best option although I do have to watch that I don't bump the pouches into people and objects. What did you finally settle down with? Or are you struggling with the less than ideal?

Duffle bag.

Too many variables in gear and location for a single answer. Like many of us, you may find you need multiple bags that will rotate depending on the specific need. I have settled on backpacks of various sizes for local trips, and for travel i can usually simply put a backpack (except the largest) into a carryon suitcase to get the benefit of wheels.

I wonder how much all this schlepping has to do with the rise and the increasing popularity of cell phones?

I do Florida Wetlands shooting. I only take, at max., two camera's. When I take two camera's, in my hands most of the time is a Sony a9 with a Sony 200-600mm lens and a Nikon D500 or D850, with a Nikon 70-200 2.8 mm FL lens attached to a spider holster system using the spider PRO lens collar plate for telephoto lenses.

Most of my outings I have my camera on a Black Rapid strap an extra battery, Sd cards, and a lens cloth in my pocket. If the lens of the day happens to be the 100_400LII, I might also take a monopod

To best answer that one has to determine how may <D>SLR users switched to cell phones.
That is switched, not augmented their arsenal with a cell phone.
I believe you'll find that to be an extremely small percentage.

When I was shooting weddings, I had 2 large camera bags to lug around, one for camera/lenses and the other for flash/bracket and external flash battery. I always used a: Magna Cart Personal 150 lb Capacity Aluminum Folding Hand Truck (Black/Red). On Amazon the price is around $34, but if you check locally you may find it cheaper. I paid around $25.

I still have the cart, but I don't shoot weddings any more.
