I listen to the oldies station, and occasionally I hear one of those old "composite songs." They were fairly popular in the 1950s. There would be a narrator talking about a news story, for example, and his story would consist of snippets of popular songs. I suppose the paranoia about copyrighted material these days has eliminated any chance of that happening again.

I found one of them - "The Flying Saucer Pt. 1," Buchanan and Goodman (1956)

Just listened to a few seconds of the “Flying Saucers”. That’s about all I could stand - it was a bit annoying actually. I guess I’ve become a grumpy old man.

I remember those. I actually made one with my "record player" and a small portable tape recorder. It was great fun.

Weird. Yes, I've heard stuff like that but I never realized it was a thing. My awakening into the world of music was more or less circa 1967 (I'm 65.5 these days). I'm a fan and collector of recorded music I really like, including music from my parent's generation, 1925 >. This particular composite "song", "The Flying Saucer Pt. 1" is a bit too silly for me. My wife claims to remember such tracks during the Seventies.

What comes to mind for me more are entire albums that were presented as gag radio shows between the regular songs. The Who's Sell Out, and Chicken Shack's O.K. Ken come to mind. The Kinks and Jimi Hendrix Experience touched on this with a few songs here and there too.

76 next month, but people think I'm in my 30s. (Or so I like to think)

It’s what YOU think that matters, not what they think!

On my 70th b’day my 7 yr old granddaughter asked me how old I was:
70, I said
She: “So are you old?”
Me: “What do you think?”
She: “NO! ( emphatically !)
That’s why she’s my favorite❤️

I grew up in that era and loved these songs...and still do. Thanks for posting this, I've saved it in my "music" folder.

Jerry, I too grew up listening to those songs. You should tune into Sirius XM, 50's on 5. They play that record as well as all 50's music on that channel. Sirius breaks down the music in eras, 50's, 60's, etc. I'm still of fan of the "oldies" and that is what I listen to almost exclusively. Still fun to hear once in a while. Thanks for sharing.

There are some of us who still remember forties music fondly.

In the early 1960's, Simon and Garfunkel did it way better with "Silent Night/The Six O'Clock News." The first time I heard it, I thought my radio was stuck between two stations.

I've noticed that when listening to the music way back then you could hear and understand every word sung clearly.

Not today though very often you can make out something sung.
