I was able to catch the camera before it crashed to the ground. BLACK RAPID'S RESPONSE WAS, WE'LL SEND YOU A NEW SWIVEL CLIP!

I believe that tethers are available from black rapid that attach to one of the camera lugs and to the strap. It still allows the strap to have same range of motion but acts as a safety backup in the event that the swivel unscrews from the camera or fails in any other way.

I made my own tether to use with my black rapid strap which eliminated any concerns I had about the safety of my gear. However, I don't use my Black Rapid strap anymore. I now prefer the lighter weight and more compact Optech designed strap I got when I joined Canon CPS. It's not a criticism of Black Rapid. I just find the Optech strap more comfortable and easier to use.

My problem with the tripod mount is ,it coming loose, not failing.

There are safety tethers that can be attached between the camera and the harness which will prevent the camera from falling to the ground.

I highly recommend OpTech. Stay away from any strap that attaches to the tripod mount

And your reason for making such a definitive statement is?

I've attached my Black Rapid strap to one of the lugs with a key ring. Works really well and I feel more secure.

I used tripod mount straps with a tether for years, although I've recently moved on to OpTech. Exactly why should we stay away from them?

I am a woman as well, but I have the Black Rapid Retro RS4. I didn't try any prior to my purchase, but I love this one. It can be worn on either shoulder (I prefer over my right, with camera on my left hip), and the shoulder pad is really comfortable. I use the Altura safety tether to secure my camera to the strap, because the tripod mount seems to loosen sometimes. I think I found them on Amazon.

We had a girl at the photo club and hers came loose from the tripod screw and we were on a boat and her camera and lens went in the water. Would not trust that prefer the lugs on the side

What do you expect them to say or do since you didn't make sure that everything was securely fastened and tight. It's your fault, not theirs.

I have used black rapid straps for many years and never had a problem. As instructed I check my connection between camera and strap every time I use the strap.

That's how you do it. Smart person here....

Another person that didn't make sure their equipment and strap were secure. You must check every time you use it for it to be fully fastened.

I did search first and while lots of posts re black rapid straps, none which answered my question. I have narrowed my choice of black rapid straps to the Breathe Sport and the Nicole Elliott. I like the chest strap on the Breathe Sport and the shoulder hugging pad on the Nicole Elliott. I’ve seen lots of positive reviews on the Breathe Sport and have actually tried one out but has anyone experience with the Nicole Elliott?

I don't have any experience with the two that you are looking at. But I do have 2 of the sport models and one of the dual straps by Black Rapid. They are by far the most comfortable and easy to use straps made. They are a little pricey but they have great customer service. My first Sport strap was used mainly with a very heavy setup; I used it with a heavy 500mm f/4 lens and DSLR with grip and all in all weighed 13lbs. The wear point near at the quick release started to get worn. I wrote to Black Rapid, they asked for a picture, then they mailed a brand new strap to me.

Note: if you get one, be smart and check the tightness of everything including the safety catch. It is easy to forget to check if you don't get in the habit at the start of every use to check your equipment. I always start out with checking my strap, then go on to my camera settings so that I don't start out shooting in the completely wrong mode or forget to check battery or memory card. All of this should be on a mental checklist so that every time you shoot you check these things out.

That’s why they make safety tethers.

I use a Pacsafe strap. A bit stiffer than most but no more so than leather. Attaches securely to the mounting points on a camera and has quick release buckles for times you want to remove the strap, like when mounting on a tripod. It is very secure and if you venture into the city jungle (foreign or domestic), cut resistant/proof. Seems very durable.

They tend to come unscrewed far too easily. Constantly have to check tightness. They have to be removed to mount the camera to a tripod. I much prefer having Arca Swiss mount attached to my camera.
My Black Rapid system went to the Goodwill years ago
