I am learning LightRoom classic and have encountered a problem. It had been working, but suddenly in the develop module, the image goes black while moving sliders, e.g. to adjust exposure. After you let go of the mouse button, it comes back with the intended change, but it's hard to compare with the previous state. I searched, but didn't find anything. Any advice will be appreciated. LR version 9.1 on MacBookPro with Mojave OS 10.14.3.
Your subscription enables technical support directly from Adobe. You can open a chat box and see what ideas they might have for the software and / or hardware configuration. You can use your back-slash key, ( '\' ), within the Develop module to see the original 'before' of the image, and toggle back to the current edit. You can also use Cmd+z and Cmd+y to undo / redo the last edit change, Ctrl+z Ctrl+y on a windows.
There is probably a shortcut key to toggle before and after, but I use ctrl z to undo the last move to see 'before' and ctrl shift z to redo it and see 'after.'

LR Classic also has a history element on the left in the develop panel. If you look at the history you can click on past edits and eliminate everything after that point, then click on the last edit and restore it all or anywhere in between. To see the history you have to click on the right facing arrow next to the word "History"

You can click on the YY button to see a before and after of the image you are working on. The one on the left is the before. I circled the YY button in red. Don't pay any attention to the Develop column. It is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo I did to make the before and after images look different for the attached image.

Please let us know the total system RAM, the capacity and load of your HD, and where the LR Swap drive is located.

RAM: 16GB, of which 10GB is used, mostly by LR and PS.
HD: 1 TB SSD Internal to the MacBookPro, with 102GB available.
LR Swap drive: Not sure what you mean, but the only drive connected locally is the 1 TB SSD Internal drive, on which the LR folders containing copies of the original images reside.
All,
Thanks for the quick responses. The problem seems to have disappeared now. I got it to go away by pressing the command key (i think) while moving a slider. It wasn't actually all black, but was showing a B&W image to show white where the corrections were being applied. I found that if you option click on the title of a slider, say "Clarity", you can then adjust it using =/- keys rather thad dragging it with the track pad. If it happens again, I will try that, then likely do another chat with Adobe and let everyone know the explanation.

Check in the Lightroom performance settings and turn off the GPU setting if on, if off, turn it on. Retry the editing after restarting Lightroom.

Stuck "Alt" key on keyboard? If you hold the Alt key down while adjusting exposure, you get the black screen you describe. I have never used it with the exposure before, but I always adjust the unsharp mask using this method.
I get that when Lightroom is working, especially if I have other programs running. Sometimes a temporary 'Lightroom not responding' message appears for a second or two. There are ways to allocate memory and cache settings in preferences, but I'm not the one to ask about that.

Thanks. When I first installed LR after Christmas, it would crash immediately upon selecting the MAP module. As posted in another thread then [
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-626241-1.html], with some very competent on-line help from Adobe, it turned out to be the NVIDIA graphics hardware, so that is now disabled when running LR. They said it would be fixed next time Apple updates the driver. Is there any chance that has been done in any updates to Mojave beyond 10.14.3 (I think it is up to 10.14.6)? I am not ready to go to Catalina 10.15 yet.

Thanks. It does act like something that should be momentary is stuck, but it's working OK now, as i mentioned above. If it happens again, I will also try both alt keys.

Thanks. It is reassuring that someone else has encountered this problem, but I have never seen a 'Lightroom not responding' message. Other programs, including PS, are running, but using hardly any CPU, as i can see using Activity Monitor.

I have seen various issues over time with GPU performance on my iMac, for a bit I had what you describe, turning off the GPU did it for me. Subsequent upgrades for Lightroom got rid of it on mine. I am on the subscription, so getting updates/upgrades is simple.
I also am running on Catalina, I upgraded the OS as soon as it was available. I have had no issues using it.
