My wife has the Canon XS 740 HS and she loves the zoom and photographic output. The only thing she doesn't like is that the lens cover will get stuck half open when turning off. She did contact Canon about it and of course they said to send it to them. She has been slow to do that because she is always using it.

I, on the other hand, got a Nikon A1000. So far so good, but I really do prefer using one of my Nikon DSLR's. I actually enjoy the heft. I know I'm strange. LOL

I have the Panasonic DMC-ZS100. It fits in a jacket pocket and in the back pocket of my jeans, but not in my shirt. I am very happy with it. The only thing I wish were better is the flash, but most all the pocket types have a weak one.

Joe, haha, thank you for elaborating the details. I’ve always used Canon gear dating back to film days and now use the sx50 and 7Dll so leaning that way.

Ha ha -- that's how my 5D got sold. I used to shoot Canon FF 5Ds. I left the 5D (mkII) in the closet so long once that when I finally got it out my wife said exactly what I reported above. I answered her that the 5D was my main camera and that I'd had it for a couple of years. She said, "No, that little camera is your main camera. What's this one do?" She was right. So the 5D got traded for a Fuji X APS class camera and I do use it more but the G7 is undoubtedly my main camera.

Dragon64, thank you. I feel the same way-my 7Dll feels just right in my hands but after lugging it 10-15 miles around a strange city or on a trail, I find myself wishing for something lighter and less bulky.

Thank you PHRubin, exactly the kind of info I’m looking for.

These cameras have 1" sensors?

I have a mirror-less Nikon 1 J5. Since you are looking for a 1" pocket-able camera that has interchangeable lenses and can shoot both RAW and jpg, I highly recommend this device. For lenses I have a 10mm pancake, a 10-30mm PD (no lens cap needed - it's built-in), a 10-30mm to accept filters, and a 30-110mm. All lenses take the same diameter filters and lens hoods. The 35mm conversion factor is 2.7; so the 10mm = 27mm full frame equivalent. The sensor is a BSI CMOS 20.8 MP, and shutter speeds go from Bulb and 30 sec to 1/16,000. And when the light is very low, you can shoot all the way up to ISO 12,800 with no fear of noise—High ISO Noise Reduction stacks four separate images for clean, sharp low-light results.

The Nikon 1 J5 handles like a dream. Its 180° tilting touch screen lets you shoot from any angle and puts key controls—even the ability to fire the shutter—at your fingertips. You can quickly select an exposure mode, including full Manual control, from the dedicated PSAM dial, while the Command Dial makes it easy to navigate the Nikon 1 J5's intuitive menu system. You can even customize the Function button to recall your favorite menu or setting.

You can quickly and easily send photos wirelessly from the Nikon 1 J5 to a compatible smartphone or tablet using built-in WI-Fi and NFC. It has the world’s fastest continuous shooting frame rate (approx. 20fps with AF) among digital cameras with interchangeable lenses available as of March 31, 2015; based on Nikon Corp. research. Additionally, the Nikon 1 J5 can capture at a mind boggling 60 frames per second continuously.

Drawback? It's no longer in production. I bought mine second-hand through mpb.com, along with the aforementioned lenses, all in mint condition. It's been my constant companion while traveling all up and down the east coast, from the High Peaks in the Adirondacks to the coastline in South Carolina.

Just my two cents. Good luck in your quest and happy shooting! You can pm me for sample images.

Having a camera that goes with me all the time has been a long-standing goal. I never fully realized it during the film era. When digital arrived I ran through a series of shirt-pocket compacts (Sony WS type) but was never happy as they each eventually screwed me unable to capture a raw file. Eventually I gave up on the shirt-pocket for a jacket-pocket that could save a raw file. The Canon G7 is my latest iteration of that camera and it is my main camera. My main camera is the camera I use the most and that's the G7. I use it almost daily.

A downside is what it does to your other cameras. The G7 is so convenient and always right there on my desk and generally it's up to the task so the other cameras get neglected. Then when you do get out the big guns your wife says, "What's that camera? Have I seen that camera? What did that one cost?"

I also have the G7X II. I agree with everything you say about it. It has a faster lens than most of the competition. The only downside is the modest zoom range, but that contributes to the fantastic sharpness in this small camera. Download and look at the sheep.

I have a G1X III that I carry most of the time. It's a great pocket camera if you have slightly larger pockets.
I also have a G1X and a G1X II with EVF. Both are really good cameras if you don't mind buying used.
My favorite slightly older Canon bridge camera is my G10. It's small, has 14.7 megapixel resolution and fits in most pockets.

Back in August of 2011, I needed a "travel camera". Not knowing much about digital cameras, I purchased a slightly used Canon G10 for that purpose. Today, I'm finding out it's a "bridge camera"!

But, hey; I still use it on rare occasions, mostly for pictures of keepsakes and household inventory ~ I find it tends to get those images even better (or, maybe simpler?) than some of my more recently acquired cameras.

the rx100 vii has a 200mm zoom - I think it’s the best pocket camera around.

In love with my RX100 Mark iv. I only shoot raw. It’s eye recognition is a game changer. Packed with features yet tiny. It’s build quality is excellent. The flip around screen permits Really great selfies. Has external mic jack for video. This latest version has longer reach. Because it’s soo small it’s always with me.

I’m looking for a pocket or belt pouch sized camera to replace/complement a Canon bridge camera and DSLR to use for more convenient picture taking while traveling. I’m tired of lugging the bigger ones around.
I’ve looked at:
Canon G5x, G7x, G9x;
Sony hx99, RX100 VII
Panasonic ZS70, ZS80, ZS100, ZS200.
I’ve researched until my brain is tired and confused, and I’m wondering if any of you have some real life experience with any of these with recommendations. Most of my travel pictures are taken outside and I’d prefer a decent optical zoom, 1” sensor, raw capability etc. but I’m open to any good options. Budget can expand for the right camera.

I like the Sony HX99 because.
1. you can shoot RAW
2. has a pop up viewfinder that acts just like a DSLR
3. has a 24-750 mm Zeiss zoom capable of producing very sharp 20X30 prints.
4. fits in a belt pouch allowing you to travel hands free.
5. has a tilt screen allowing you to get that low angle shot
