I have a Nikon D5000 and a wireless remote shutter release that I got with the camera plus a Nikon D5000 for Dummies manual. I have been trying to get the camera to take a picture with the remote release, but to no avail. Ieven purvchased a new battery so I know the battery is good. I am not doing something that I should be doing. Is sthere anyone here who couild assist me in getting this thing working for me? I would really appreciate the assistance.

Thanks for the help but nothing works...I twisted that dial on the top to every station from program thru manual modes and nothing worked...the camera just looked at me as if I were stupid.

can't find any bulb setting on this camera...the3re is nothing on the ring on the top of the camera with all the settings that is something like the "bulb" on the old 35mm cameras. I am perplexed, to say the least.

I'm sorry. Is there a button for MENU

When you click it when in SHUTTER MODE does it give you additional menu items showing.

I did it with a D5100 very easy.

Also look on pages 80 and 84 of your cameras user manual to learn how to find bulb on your D5000.

Darn - google gave that to me. I cannot honestly take credit

Sarge69

It's on page 65 - 67 in the manual, which is available from Nikon online. The Remote feature is part of the Release Menu.

That remote will only work pointing towards the front of the camera, it is an infrared remote I think is what they call it.

On the D5100 you have to set the release on the settings screen to remote...immediate or with delay. Don't know if the D5000 is the same.
