Hey guys,

Anyone had some experience with this lens? Read some reviews online, and they all said it was quite sharp - especially for the price. I’m planning to snag a second hand copy of it for 300AUD (~200USD) as a way to get started with wildlife and sports photography, but I’m also not entirely sure why it’s so cheap...

Your thoughts would be appreciated :)

You really should read actual reviews of folks who have used this lens, not like SOME folks here who SAY they own it but do not. Looks to me as if it is averaging 4 out of 5 positive reviews on 6 sites that I have seen. Here is an example.

Personally, I use only OEM equipment. I have shot Canon, Sony, and Nikon and find that the manufactures lenses consistently over time outperform third party glass.

If you are a Nikon shooter, the NIKKOR FX AF-P 70-300 VR is a superb lens with incredibly fast and accurate AF. And it is relatively inexpensive. Thom Hogan has it on his recommended list.

Hi.
For the past year I have been using this same Tamron lens that I bought last year new from B&H Photo. I have really enjoyed the lens, and feel it takes great photos. However, over the past few weeks I t has begun to give me an "error 1" message, "Lens cannot communicate with camera, clean lens contacts",( which I have done, and sometimes it helps, and sometimes not). I need to contact B&H Photo this morning to see what they have to say.

Do be VERY careful though to make VERY sure that the lens you are considering is a USA manufactured lens,( if you are in the USA

Sorry, sent that before I meant to.

I was saying make SURE it is a USA manufactured lens,( if you live in the USA, I forgot to look at where you are from) NOT an INTERNATIONAL grey market lens(which COULD be WHY it is a lot less expensive). USA Companies will NOT WARRANTY or REPAIR an INTERNATIONAL GREY MARKET lens.

The Tamron I bought from B&H is a USA manufactured lens, and came with a SIX year warranty, which I feel is outstanding, especially in this day and age!
Hope that helps.

With my D7100 I had sigma 18-200 and loved it . When I went full frame I got Tamron 28-300 I never felt,it took sharp photos so I got a Nikon 28-300 , what a difference. Go for the better lens.

I paid $350 USD for this lens NEW from a USA authorized source about 6 or 7 years ago, and it has served me well! I haven't used in a while, as my Tamron 150-600mm G2 is mounted to my Nikon D500 most of the time.

I do not own the lens. I have read reports and watched You Tube and those reports are favorable. I only use Nikon lenses with my Nikon cameras. No issues with incompatibility and Nikon lenses are sharp enough for me.
Another thing, third party lenses loose value pretty fast. When it is time to sell you get a better value for original manufactured lenses such as those made by Olympus, Pentax,Canon and others.

I use this lens with my Sony A7RII camera with a LA-EA3 A-mount to E-mount adapter and, before then, I used it with my Sony A77 camera. I am very pleased with this lens. As with most telephoto lenses, it may be hard to auto-focus over f/6.3 in lower light.

I own that lens and LOVE using it! It is quite sharp and not so heavy as to be awkward. I also love playing with the macro feature! Go for it!!

What makes you think people claim to own a lens when they don't?
That's like saying people who don't post pictures don't have any.

I actually DO have this lens, love using it, and would be happy to post a picture for confirmation. 😊
