My NEW computer went belly-up in 4 months! Had to wipe clean, reinstall Windows 10 and start all over. I've spent the last two days trying to get programs back up and running.

I've reinstalled my scanner (Epson 850) and SilverFast. I put in some negs today to start scanning again. However, SilverFast is stuck on "Positive" and nothing I do allows me to change it. The other possibilities are greyed out.

Also, I have LR 6, and I need to AGAIN update it to 6.14. I had the link on the hard drive, but in the wiping and reloading, it has gotten lost. Does anyone have it?

My PS is CS5.1. And, I need to update it to the latest version. Does anyone have the link on Adobe where I can find that? BTW, for the last two, I spent hours on the Adobe website this morning and couldn't find either one.

Welcome to windows 10, the ultimate bow wow from Microsoft. 7 was so understandable and easy to use for what we are doing. Lots of luck. Do you have a competent computer consulting firm in your town? Even with my 35+ years working with computers and doing consulting for 10 years I have to now go to a good outfit here to help me sort things out.

When I had to install CS5 on a replacement laptop that had no CD player, I contacted Adobe customer service. The rep who helped me set up a link for me to download the program. A month or so later I got a warning on my desktop that my software was not legit. I contacted Adobe again and the rep found that the rep who gave me the copy for my laptop had cancelled my original serial number. He set it up so I could download it to my desktop with the new serial number. My point is that Adobe customer service will work with you, and it may be easier than searching for what you need.

As for reinstalling other programs, although it may not be necessary all the time, I found totally shutting down the computer after installing each program avoids many issues.

Good luck!

Might be a prudent move!

When we discussed this LR issue in October 2019, the suggestion was made to download and save the LR6.14 install file onto your back-up media. You should assure this action is performed during this go round: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-613981-1.html

I used their live chat both times. I was surprised and impressed.

It is worth noting that turning off your Windows 10 computer does NOT result in a complete reload of all drivers, programs, etc., unless you have disabled the Fast Startup feature.

A Restart on the other hand does force the OS to delete all drivers, etc., and to reload all drivers, etc.

So if you have installed a program and want a clean sheet restart, then 'restart' the computer, not shut it down.

Yes, my computer tech also said that. But now the issue is to find the links for the last updates.

I did that. But as I explained, it disappeared in the mess. Thanks!
