Both stores have a well deserved excellent reputation. Lately, however, I've been buying from B&H due to the sales tax issue.
Both stores are now required to collect state sales tax, California in my case. B&H will refund the sales tax on the spot if the customer uses a specific credit card curiously named PayBoo. Adorama doesn't refund the state tax which can add up to a significant amount for a major purchase. It's important to understand that the sales tax IS being paid when you buy from either merchant. My B&H invoice shows the sales tax while the CC slip doesn't.

This is just an observation, comment if you will on the increasing complexities of online trading.

Personally I think that for a certain amount spent at a online Store, they should be willing to "Eat" the Sales Tax, especially if you buy regularly at that Online store, B&H seems to kind'a do that, but you end up with another C.C., that if you carry a balance, interest will be added and Shipping cost too.πŸ˜•πŸ₯ΊπŸ€”πŸ™„πŸ˜³

I recently made a $400 purchase from Adorama and NO sales tax was charged. Free shipping & great accessories (filters, Corel, Case, etc.) also included. Same deal not available at B & H.

I don't get charged state sales tax, but I got a 10% kickback in the form of an electronic gift card from B&H when I purchased my camera and 2 lenses, and then a separate purchase of a tripod. I used my own personal credit card, so I'm not sure how they handle it on their Payboo card.

You are supposed to report the sales tax you don't pay for online purchases at tax time anyway.

"Sales tax?" We folks from Delaware don't know of what you speak.

I believe they discount the product the amount the sales tax would be.

You have there card? I purchased ink & a couple of other items there a few moths ago. I don't know the regular prices on the other items purchased but, they only charged me $ 108.00 for the Canon Pro 100 ink cartridge set which is normally $124. I checked a couple other sites , including Canon's. They were all charging $124. I do not have their card so it was a pleasant surprise.

More than that, they remit the sales tax, as required, to the appropriate state.

Whining scofflaws want others to pay their share.

Why are you distinguishing between online and brick and mortar stores? Would you walk into your local camera store, where you have done business for years, and ask them to eat the sales tax? Good luck with that. When you charge a B&H purchase to a Payboo credit card, owned by B&H, they are counting on people to not pay the balance by the due date. The high monthly interest rate applied to the balance more than makes up for the sales tax which is being β€œeaten” by B&H.

Use of Payboo also means that B&H isn't paying fees to other credit card companies.

Don't forget the generational recipients on welfare and every other entitlement program on the books.

That's a reason to be a whining scofflaw when it comes to complying with our laws?
