Capture NX2,

I am having trouble with my Capture NX2, I have had Capture since it first came out, ( I bought the CD (twice) ) and have used it since then. I recently had to install a new hard drive in a computer so I needed to re-download Capture NX2. I downloaded the latest version of NX2 and using my product key everything seem to have worked perfectly until I tried to work on some photos.

Okay 1st let me say that I checked using View NX2 and all the folders and
photos are in there designated drives and locations.

How the folders are set up in the drives is I have one main folder for each year and in that folder I have 12 sub-folders, 1 for each month and in those are all the sub-folders and photos for that month.

When I open Capture NX2, in the folder palette are all my files in all my drives, then when I click a drop-down menu for a year folder, say 2019, all 12 sub-folders appear in the browser palette, but I can't open them. Then when I click on the folder name (say A, for January) all the sub-folders are there in a drop down menu, when I click on the final folder in the chain where the photos should be there is nothing in the browser.

I sure hope that makes sense. What have I done wrong!

Thanks in Advance
Swede

You might want to ask this question to folks who use the software...

I still use NX2 and downloaded it to two new win 10 pcs recently. After I entered my license code everything worked just as before.

One thing to try to make sure the program is recognizing the right file folder is to place the cursor on the left side of the file folder name as opposed to the middle of it. Then double click it. See if this open the folder you are looking for. Sometimes you have to find the right spot on the folder name or branch to get the mouse to recognize it.

If this does not work, uninstall the program and reinstall from nikonusa.com. Then enter your license code. I cannot think of anything in preferences that affects the issue are having.

Or try another mouse.

Just remember that if you want to use Capture NX2 on NEF files, it will open NEF files on D800e and earlier Nikon bodies.

If you have NEF files on later bodies like D 810 or D 850, open NEF in Capture NX-D, process them and save as a Tiff and then take the Tiff into NX2.

My version on NX-2 is integrated with NIK Color Effects Pro 3 and that combo still does a great job.

I also prefer NX2 to NXD, but photoman has a point. If NX2 is not able to open NEF files from newer DSLRs, then just download NX-D, open the files and save them as Tif or Jpg. Then use NX2 and they should be fine.

I do not believe you have done anything wrong. Nikon discontinued the excellent Capture NX and worse yet, they offer no support. I had the software and they told me that it was not compatible with Windows 10. For sure mine does not work with this version of Windows.
I have been using View NX2 as my first RAW data editor ever since.

Don't be so "mightier than thou." I have shot RAW and TIF and JPG. My contention: if you know what you are doing and don't do a lot of Post work, JPG is fine. For the past year I ONLY shoot JPG and that is just how I like it.

Yeah, right. JPG is just as good a raw or TIF file.

Now, it is your choice and privilege to shoot and save in JPG, I have no beef with that. What I have a beef with is the casual destruction of raw being justified by your posts and attitude that likely will throw off many folks as to what a raw is capable of compared to a raw of TIF-16.

I also agree that Jpeg can be fine if you know how to get it right in the camera. I have a friend who is a Pro bird photographer and he shoots Jpeg all the time with his Canon and Sony cameras. He does minimal post processing and when he does he uses the version of Photoshop elements he got in college.

Most of my nature photographers do minimal post processing. And those steps might be White Balance tweaking, shadows and hightlights tweaking, and sharpening of just the nature subject, then making the final image needed.

Nikon's software is the biggest reason I switched to Lightroom. Best of luck.
