Just my point of view; I started with the Nikon D3200 in 2013 upgraded along the way D5600, D750 and now as of September 2019 the D810. The bottom line is this, looking back could have saved time, money and frustration by purchasing the D810 after the D3200. Buy the best you can afford and learn with it.
PS. Shot film back in the 70’s and 80’s I just could not believe people were paying $ 2000.00 to $6000.00 dollars for digital cameras, boy was I Wr Wr Wr Wrong.

Yep. I was shocked too, that some photographic equipment was so expensive. When the Nikon D5 was released in 2016, for $6500, body only. All I could say, was, Wow!

If inflation is taken into consideration, I always paid about the same price for my camera body around $2600 to $2900 in 2019 money.

The OP doesn't say which camera he is using right now. I think the D5600 may be OK for starting out but upgrading from another Nikon DSLR it's too little an upgrade. Upgrading in too many close steps is very costly.

Manufacturers usually list authorized dealers somewhere. Here is Nikon's. Go to bottom of page>Shopping Help>Nikon Authorized Dealers (PDF)

Thank you for your response. The description you gave was a lot more informative than what we researched. That was helpful and appreciated.

My wife and I are extremely blessed for the responses and will be taking the advise of purchasing the best that we could afford. We will be looking at the D850 to build on that. Thank you.

I'd definitely get the D750 if that's an option you can afford. The D5600 is 'fine' for starting out, but if you get hooked on photography, the D750 has a much higher upside.

You're jumping across almost the entire range of Nikon cameras. You started out looking at an entry level cropped sensor D5600 and now you're going to one of the top full frame Nikons - the D850. You should rent some cameras to try out. LensRentals.com is very good.

Good morning. Amazon does over 53% of their business through outside sellers and they do a very good job of screening and quality control. However as someone mentioned earlier their A-Z guarantee does not cover digital equipment, but, underneath the buy it now button it will list the seller. Just do a google search and get the reviews! I bought a guitar a few weeks ago off Amazon for half off what the rest of the world was charging. I could hear my father saying,if it’s to good to be true.., but I did my google searches and the music store had great reviews. It was the best purchase I ever made! Good luck.

To answer the basic question another way, "investment" is the probably wrong word. As you have been reading, camera bodies have different capabilities and most users will change bodies over time as skills and technologies change. The investments come with the lenses, which are much more expensive, will last much longer and (usually) operate with newer cameras. The D5600 is a fine camera, so IMHO it would be a good place to start, with the goal of upgrading the lenses.

On the specific packages offered now, I agree that the DX 70-300 non-VR is the weak point, while the DX and FX versions of the VR 70-300 are both gems. If a package were available with the 18-55 only, I would get that and purchase a longer lens separately.

I'd say any of the "ABC" companies, which adds Cameta. They're also reliable and wonderful to deal with. BUT, if you're looking for a D5600 bundle, you might also check Costco and Sam's Club; they often have very nice bundles and some nice add-ins, like SD cards and cases (because Canon and Nikon both "fair trade" their cameras, so there are really no major differences in cost from place to place). But, like one of the posters said above, if you're buying from Amazon, make sure you know WHO you're buying it from. If it says "Third Party Seller," you want to know WHO the third party is. If it's one of the ABC companies, you're okay; if not you may risk a gray market camera which you don't really want.

Your question was: Is purchasing a Nikon D5600 bundle from Amazon a good /bad investment? Hobbies like vacations can not be cost accounted. They are that spark that makes life the wonder that the Lord intended when he created man. Purchase what you can afford, plus a little, and never look back. Then smile and savor the monuments.

I purchased the Nikon D750 approximately two years ago and are delighted with it. I’m using it primarily for photographs of our natural world and our dogs.
