As someone who lived in Florida for 40 years but grew up in the midwest, I have never been colder than in Florida. Once was at a night soccer game where temperatures in the low 40's but a 35 knot wind on St. John's river. In South Florida, it is really just hundreds of islands connected by roads and bridges. We lived in West Palm Beach. When temps in the winter drop into the 40's and low 50's with 90% humidity and 30 knot winds off the Atlantic (cold water), it is cold.

Long Island, no wonder you wear shorts! Come up hear to Camden, NY, and experience what Winter is all about. Winter starts here in mid October, when the first snows fall and doesn't stop till Easter. Sub freezing temps that will make your boys fall off. 😁 stay warm!

I like when it the wind blows up my shorts.
Even in sub zero weather.
