Rainy, wet pavement. Two good shots Have to decide on

I would select #1 for the rainy, wet pavement.
There's a little perspective distortion going on with the
photo. I downloaded the photo and opened it in DxO
ViewPoint 3. It has sophisticated tools for correcting
lens distortions and perspective distortions. The
software recognized that a Nikon D4S was used with a
Nikon 24-120mm f/4 lens. They have distortion profiles
for that lens that can be downloaded and used to
automatically make corrections.
There's no perspective problem in image #1.
It's a view from 5 feet above the pavement,
not an orthographic rendering or "blueprint".
It displays the natural perspective of a level
view, for a person of average height. If you
alter it to orthographic projection, it will look
top heavy. IOW, it's already perfectly normal
and does not need any magic software fixes.
If you force all images to "live by the rules"
your images will, more often than not, "die
by the rules". Live, and let live.
I agree with ID . "It ain't broke....why try to fix it"?
To my untrained eye, they both look great, but No.1 seems to be the clear choice given the assignment parameters. Very nice.
For the assignment, I agree with most here, for number one. I did crop it a ways above the drain when I viewed it and preferred it that way, but that isn't the question you asked.
Also not what you asked about, but that second one, really fantastic!!

There's no perspective problem in image #1. br It... (

Wrong. There's a little perspective distortion and some volume deformation. The Jeep on the far right edge of the image, is stretched horizontally from volume deformation. Volume deformation also causes the side of the large building to bow inwards a little. A perspective correction and volume deformation correction makes the sides straighter and parallel.
I'm not trying to knock the OP's images. They're both great images. They would no doubt do well in competitions.

#1 should do it comfortably. Good Luck

I don't get the
wet pavement in number two at all.
I like it, but not for the theme.
I get it but there is not much of it. 2 great photos but, if wet pavement is the theme, # 1.

I would pick #1....more unique....looks wetter.
I would definitely go with number two--higher interest, more impact, great lines.

The first image meets that criteria for me in a more colorful view
Me too.
The perspective distortion jumped out at me too but it doesn’t affect the theme of the image.

Both are very nice. However, the first actually seemed more inline with the criteria given. I cannot really see rain on the pavement in #2. Good luck in the competition.
#1 because it does show rainy wet pavement. The second, while an excellent shot doesn’t show rainy and wet to me. If you hadn’t told me, I would not have known.
