My granddaughter Samantha, who just turned 8 and is now a 2nd grader, has always loved photography. I bought her a red Nikon Coolpix L-32 for her 5th Birthday. She and her family took a road trip in Alaska this summer and she took over 500 photos. We selected these from endless selfies and family portraits. She helped crop them and choose the Topaz Studio presets for post processing. I'm amazed by her creativity and eye for composition. I hope you enjoy this small sample of her work.

When my oldest granddaughter was about 4, she started pretending she was taking pictures. I bought her a V-tech 4 mp camera and she used it all the time, copying what I was doing. Now that she's 6, her preferred camera is her mother's cell phone. When she's about 8, I will get her a rugged point and shoot, as you did. She loves art and science, so I hope to take her on some nature walks where we can combine art and science with photography.

Thanks so much for your comments lowkick. She used the v-tech at 4 as well.

I don't know what to say... other than your granddaughter has the "eye" for composition..that's essencial to make it in the photography world. Enjoy her as much as you can, while you can.

From Samantha:

Grandpa just showed me the posted pictures and all of the wonderful comments. Thank you very much to everyone who commented on my pictures and a special THANK YOU to those who suggested Grandpa buy me a new camera. It makes me feel so happy that people like my pictures. I doubted them at first but now that I know that so many photographers like them, I feel much more confident in my photography work. I'm very excited to do more stuff in photography and get better at it. Love to everyone for making me happy.
Samantha

Thanks so much Susan. I had never seen that part either - the Kanai peninsula and Danali.
