My granddaughter Samantha, who just turned 8 and is now a 2nd grader, has always loved photography.

Samantha did a remarkable job.

I bought her a red Nikon Coolpix L-32 for her 5th Birthday. She and her family took a road trip in Alaska this summer and she took over 500 photos. We selected these from endless selfies and family portraits. She helped crop them and choose the Topaz Studio presets for post processing. I'm amazed by her creativity and eye for composition. I hope you enjoy this small sample of her work.

Some of my response didn't fly. Samantha did a fantastic job. I love those of the dog.

Thanks so much Ira. I just came across these shots of her taking pictures of big sis at the preschool with her mom's cell phone in March 2014 at just over 2 years old

she did a great job, mark, and hopefully photography will become a life long passion for her.

Those are really nice Mark. A couple of our granddaughters like to take photos, but are not as serious about it as your granddaughter. It is great that she has found a hobby that she enjoys at a young age. You never know how it will develop. I suspect it will be a lifelong hobby at least, maybe her profession.

One of our daughters loves children, became an elementary teacher and also enjoyed taking photos, especially of her two children, now just 2 and 4. Several months ago she started her own family photography business and is really enjoying it. She also "has the eye." BTW, I started building model airplanes at age 5 and became an aerospace engineer; I still build and fly RC airplanes.

Thanks so much Dennis. I just looked at the 11 year old’d Alaska photos and they are also great. I built model planes and ships as well - Revell kits. I wanted to be an engineer until I talked to one who complained about working on a project for 2 years only to have it cancelled. He suggested I become a doctor so I did!
