Branching out from wildlife photography to people photos. This is my first attempt at "low key" lighting. I was kind enough to do the posing. My wife did the focus and shutter release.

Do you prefer the color or black and white version?

Constructive criticism is welcome. I'm looking to become proficient at this aspect of the hobby.

Its too underexposed for my tastes. And I generally like black and white portraits of men.

A little under exposed but, I like it otherwise. You're on the right track.

The black and white shows more detail, but I agree with Vietnam Vet - both are too underexposed.

Thanks for the all of your inputs.

I have since posted lighter versions in one of the recommended sections.

You all are the best!

I like the idea, but they are too underexposed for my taste.

Always prefer color, especially with faces. With photoshop I brought out the real you.

Both are a bit underexposed. Personally, I prefer black and white for portraits. Ted Grant said it best, “When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!”
