An Old Farm House and my first time using a Texture

Taken with a Canon 6D
Lens: 24-105 f/4 @ 24mm
ISO - 100; f/10; ss - 1/200

Thanks for looking. This is my first time using a texture in pp with a photo. C&C welcome, especially regarding the use of the texture: too dark, too grungy, just doesn't work; I am open to whatever suggestions you may have. Please use the download.

I think the texture augments the look --adds a different 'dimension' to the image-- but wonder whether the darkening and the overall difference couldn't have similarly been done, but done a little more selectively. Literally, selectively, using either one or more hard edged selections and applying your texture/filter either to that area or in a selectively inverted region. Or alternately, something similar but using one or more masks instead. (For me) the bottom line is your texturized version seems unnecessarily dark. But then, maybe that's what you intended?

Welcome to the addictive world of textures! I have had so much fun learning about them since MinnieV hosted a topic a few years ago: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-404543-1.html

A more recent discussion (several participants demonstrate): https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-584844-1.html

There are lots of free textures online, and you can change their colors and smoothness, and, of course, you can make your own Several of PP Forum's regulars use them. Here's a recent topic: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-626869-1.html

For me, the yellows of the texture you added do not really go with the white snow, but you have a great subject to work with. Enjoy your explorations and visit us in PP Forum soon:

Thank you, Cany, for your in-depth analysis and suggestions. Much appreciated. My attempt did turn out darker than I had intended or hoped, but when I played with the lighting and saturation, I just seemed to mess it up. So, this is what I was left with. I am going to take your suggestions, start over, and hopefully come up with a different, and better version.

Whatever, but please don't lose/degrade the luminosity in the sky (and/or in the foreground snow). It's that that gives the image depth.

<added note:> Oh, btw, you already know --or you ought to know I already really like your Saskatchy-works. Subject matter, composition, shooting when conditions are interesting rather than anything else. Those things matter.
