Like many fellow uhh'ers I enter a few photo contests in line with my favoured photography subjects, however I recently came across a photo contest which totally baffled me as to the subject matter, this is it below, does anyone have a clue what I should look in my portfolio for??

"Transitions and displacements are the objects of reflection for our call. The concept of the two terms is a recall to the “liquid” vision of contemporary philosophy. Transitions, displacements, mutations of condition are the prerogatives of a fluid approach to reality, prerogatives of a free change in the state of things that allows full organic adherence to the environment and to the context in which each subject / object is immersed . The works that will take part in the exhibition will represent an excursus on the subject, addressed both from a physical, chemical and biological point of view and from a social, cultural and political one"

Surely you can understand that it means "all-embracing" or "everything goes"?

That is a clear call for photos of bull porn in a political setting using zoom transitions during the exposure.

I'm just going with your simple title statement. "WTF?". I have no ideas for comment other than that. Seems to sum it up.

I think it is wide open. Enter whatever you want with an equally wordy explanation of how it fits within the parameters. Include metaphysical jibberish and you should take first prize!

Go ahead and enter. Interpret it as you may. After all art is in the mind of the beholder.

Best said by Lewis Carol in his nonsense poem "Jaberwocky":

"Twas brillig and the slythy toves, did gyre and gymbal in the wabe.
All mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome graths outgrabe."

I work for the government. We have to do a lot of online education (you might be surprised to know - about ethics, whistleblower protection, etc.). We had one recently that this reminds me of. I thought that someone who recently got their MS in Human Resources had to demonstrate that they remembered all of the "buzz words" they learned in school. The 30-minute program was complete nonsense, and I suspect that 90% of people who watched it, if asked what the program said, would have no clue.

People like the person who described the anticipated topic of this photo contest feel they are demonstrating their smarts, but "smart" would mean clearly explaining in straightforward terms exactly what they wanted with an example.

Is pot legal in your state? Sound like the contest organizer hit the bowl early that day.

Obviously it is a passible inexact "Mental Sublimation" teetering on a rotating conical sphere immersed in a gluten-free environment.
Loudly Demand your "entrance fee" so that you may start counseling . . .
Or perhaps you should just quietly smile and move on?!?!
I will now go take a nap as my head has started to hurt. . . .

It seems to me that they are specifically looking for images that are thought-provoking in some way... images that make a profound cultural or philosophical statement, rather than just pretty pictures that don't really say anything.

Thanks for a reply that actually fits. Most of the HHs above are just grumpy, or would prefer something simple for a contest, like "a picture of an apple" or "a picture of a building."

The contest seems to me to allow for a very wide range of subjects, but must show some change or growth or decay. Those attributes are ones that can make a picture very interesting. Several possibilities come to mind: a graveyard, a burned-out building, a junkyard, a growing garden, a wilted garden, a wilted flower, a birth, a death, a confirmation, a wedding. Particularly interesting in the contest language is asking for showing some philosophical change, and I'd have to think about how to show that.

I suppose I'll get some blow-back from this.
