I like this very majestic photo. I wouldn't do anything to the first one posted. Just the perfect exposure.
Very, Very good jobđź‘Ź

I’m going with the flow here RG, and happy to do so - the glimpse is certainly adequate. In fact, it is enticing. We’d like to see more but are happy to have seen this much. For someone (like you) who knows it well enough, the glimpse will be sufficient to place the shot and bring back some good memories.

Not sure if this works or not. It's a straight rendition of what circumstances presented me with. I would have liked to see more mountain in the background but it didn't happen at that time. I got a clearer shot later on but from a different position. It's a crop of a wider shot but uncropped it looks too open at the sides and unbalanced. This is the closest I could get it to look balanced and self-contained. Does the mountain look too detached or does it create a sense of mystery? I can't decide if I was lucky or unlucky catching just a glimpse of the mountain.

I like the sense of mystery it has.

Thank you for commenting, Dave. It's a variation on the usual scenery shot. And yes, it will bring back good memories.

I think that the mountain peeking thru the fog adds a very nice air of mystery, taking a fairly ordinary picture to an outstanding image. Very nice capture and excellent crop.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Thank you Mike Mike (can I call you Mike for short? ) and a merry Christmas to you. I liked the idea but thought the mountain might be too lost in the mist and look too detached. The verdict would seem to be "no".

You'll probably find that something niggles you no matter what crop you try. I think it's one of those images. The starting point is less than ideal and it's a case of making the best of what you've got. As I said before, the original framing seemed too open at the sides. If you crop in from the right but not the left it'll seem unbalanced. It might be able to take a bit more room on the left but not much. I settled for what looked OK to my eye (for better or worse ).

Now it's starting to show promise. IMO this a big improvement over the opening image.

Thanks for commenting, Neil. I didn't care for the original because it didn't look balanced to my eye, mainly because the right hand side is too open. IMO it needs the crop to keep the eye on the subjects - the island and the glimpse of mountain. If it was printed big enough it probably wouldn't need the crop, but that's probably not going to happen, so I go by what looks good full screen.
