Not sure if this works or not. It's a straight rendition of what circumstances presented me with. I would have liked to see more mountain in the background but it didn't happen at that time. I got a clearer shot later on but from a different position. It's a crop of a wider shot but uncropped it looks too open at the sides and unbalanced. This is the closest I could get it to look balanced and self-contained. Does the mountain look too detached or does it create a sense of mystery? I can't decide if I was lucky or unlucky catching just a glimpse of the mountain.

Hi, Coz,
Yes, I think you were fortunate that the cosmos provided that momentary glimpse of the mountain top, and your eye-for-scene was excellent to capture it. Clearly (if that term may be used for an image, the impact of which depends upon fog and low cloud) there is “mystery” about what lurks in that neverland of mist ‘twist tree-on-island and distant bit of visible mountain.

Good capture...good image!

Yay. Another positive. Thank you Prairie Coz. At the time I was cursing my luck and I had to go away and come back later. Not quite the disaster then .

Yes, it works! Beautiful image, and like others, I like the mysterious aspect.

I do wonder how it would look if there were just a little more (not much!) definition of the opposite shore....

Thank you srt. I'll have a go at bringing out the opposite shoreline. There's not much to work with, but darkening the shadows should be enough to strengthen the outline.

I didn't fancy going much further than this (but it does look like an improvement ).

It's a really nice image. Very spacious and uncluttered. That appeals to me. You spoke of cropping. I think I'd like to see the full image. Something niggles at me a bit, and I think perhaps a bit more space on the left side of the image would satisfy that. Not sure.

You'll probably find that something niggles you no matter what crop you try. I think it's one of those images. The starting point is less than ideal and it's a case of making the best of what you've got. As I said before, the original framing seemed too open at the sides. If you crop in from the right but not the left it'll seem unbalanced. It might be able to take a bit more room on the left but not much. I settled for what looked OK to my eye (for better or worse ).
